現代語訳
昔、弘化四年丁未（1847年）三月二十四日、晴れて暖かく穏やかな日であった。その夜、亥の刻（午後10時頃）に信濃国七郡で雷鳴のような響きと共に大地震が発生し、城下や在町の民家が即座に倒壊し、所々で出火して焼死者・即死者が数万人に及んだ。同時刻に犀川筋の更級郡で、山平林・岩倉・孫瀬山・櫻井・虚空蔵山の高さ六十丈余り、横幅十一町程の場所が抜け崩れて犀川に押し出し、川を埋め立てて川幅を塞き止め、流水を堰き止めた。川上に水が溜まって湖水のようになり、丹波鳥山の渡し場は水が枯れて陸地のようになった。【4コマ目で筆写しているため、4コマ目を参照】

Long ago, on the 24th day of the 3rd month of Kōka 4, year of the Fire Sheep (1847), it was a clear, warm, and peaceful day. That night, around the hour of the Boar (around 10 PM), a great earthquake struck the seven districts of Shinano Province with a sound like thunder. The castle town and rural town houses collapsed instantly, fires broke out in various places, and tens of thousands died from burning or immediate impact. At the same time, along the Sai River in Sarashina District, an area of Yamahirabayashi, Iwakura, Magose-yama, Sakurai, and Kokūzō-yama—measuring over 60 jō in height and about 11 chō in width—collapsed and slid into the Sai River, burying and blocking the river channel and damming the flow. Water accumulated upstream, forming a lake, while the Tanba-Toriyama ferry crossing dried up and became like dry land. [This is being copied in frame 4, so refer to frame 4]
