安治川尻近辺死人凡
三百人よざこば近辺死人
凡弐百人よ寺嶋同死人凡
五百五十人よ堀江川近辺

十人五人と即死いたし候
事は世にはめずらしき事也

嘉永七年甲寅（1854年）十一月四日午後8時頃から
諸国大地震・大津波　三編

【上段右】
幕府様の有り難い
仁政により市中の
人々はこれを喜び、本当に
有り難く思わない者は
一人もいない。そのため
諸物価、米、万事何でも
値段が追々安くなり、
喜ぶことこの上ない。
これにより市中の人々は第一に
火の用心を大切に守り、
万事に心を配り、
すべての人に至るまで慎んで
いることである。

大坂川口大津波の概要
安治川尻近辺で死者およそ
三百人、与左衛門新開近辺で死者
およそ二百人、寺島で死者およそ
五百五十人、堀江川近辺で
三百人、道頓堀・木津川
近辺でおよそ三百人。その他
各所で二十人、三十人、あるいは
十人、五人と即死したことは
世にも稀なことである。
もっとも負傷者はその数
知れず、即死の数はおよそ二千余
と聞いている。この人々が一度に
声を上げて泣き叫び、その
哀れさは言葉では表し
きれない。
十一月五日暮れ午後6時から夜
午後10時過ぎまでのことである。

伊勢山田並びに志摩国鳥羽
同日大地震で大荒れとなり、
人家は大体半分が
崩れ、大きな
混乱となり、その
哀れさは言うに堪えない。
ここで筆記するように、
御師様は年始の
準備をされて
大坂表へ上り、今回の
大坂の津波で暦
等贈り物の類を難
船させた御方もあり、
まことに前代未聞の
ことである。もっとも大神宮の
御社並びに末社、社家の
家々も地震のため少々
損傷した箇所が数多くある。
▲志摩国鳥羽辺りは同日に
大地震が一通りでなく
大揺れで人家が崩れた
ことは大体その国の半分
ほどが崩れた所へ大
津波が打ち寄せ、武家
町家とも大半が流され、
人々が難儀したのは哀れである。
その大変な様子を記した
知らせの写しをここに記す。

同日同時刻の大地震で
町家が損傷したことはその
数を知れず。寺院、名古屋
御城下、御家中は言うに及ばず
大地震で大崩壊し、言語に
述べがたく、まことに
哀れな次第である。

伊勢四日市（十一月四日
午前8時頃から）
大地震が揺り始め、その
恐ろしさは弁舌では
述べがたく、もっとも
家数三千軒ほどが
揺り崩れ、男女
子供に至るまでその
混乱の恐ろしいことよ。同日
午後2時までにまた揺れ、大地が割れ
ますます強く揺れ、人々がその中へ
落ち込んだことはその数知れず。
また同日伊勢津辺りも同様である。
もっとも家数二十四、五軒も
崩れ損じたものは
その数知れず。外に白子
神戸松坂桑名辺りも
大地震であったが
少々の損傷であった。

Thanks to the benevolent governance of the shogunate, all people in the city rejoice in this, and there is not a single person who does not feel grateful. As a result, the prices of all goods, rice, and everything else have gradually decreased, bringing limitless joy. Therefore, the people of the city carefully observe fire prevention above all else, pay attention to all matters, and all people act with prudence.

Overview of the Great Tsunami at Osaka's Kawaguchi
Around Ajigawa-jiri: approximately 300 deaths; around Yozaemon Shinkai: approximately 200 deaths; Terashima: approximately 550 deaths; around Horie River: 300 deaths; around Dotonbori and Kizu River: approximately 300 deaths. In addition, 20, 30, or sometimes 10 or 5 people died instantly in various places - truly a rare occurrence in this world. The number of injured is countless, and the number of instant deaths is heard to be approximately over 2,000. When all these people cried out at once, their pitifulness cannot be expressed in words. This occurred from around 6 PM on November 5th until past 10 PM.

Ise Yamada and Shima Province Toba
On the same day, a great earthquake caused great devastation, with roughly half of all houses collapsed, creating great confusion. The pitifulness is unbearable to describe. As recorded here, the Onshi (Ise Shrine priests) were preparing for New Year and had come up to Osaka, but some lost their calendars and gifts due to shipwrecks in this Osaka tsunami - truly an unprecedented event. The Grand Shrine, subsidiary shrines, and shrine families' houses also suffered numerous minor damages from the earthquake. In Shima Province around Toba, on the same day there was an extraordinary great earthquake with severe shaking that collapsed houses - roughly half the province collapsed, then a great tsunami struck, washing away most samurai residences and townhouses. The people's suffering was pitiful. A copy of the written report describing this great disaster is recorded here.

Owari Province (though there are many things to record, they are abbreviated)
At the same day and time, due to the great earthquake, the number of damaged townhouses is unknown. Temples, Nagoya castle town, and samurai residences suffered indescribable great collapse from the great earthquake - truly a pitiful situation.

Ise Yokkaichi (from around 8 AM on November 4th)
The great earthquake began shaking with such terror that words cannot describe it. Approximately 3,000 houses collapsed from the shaking, and the terrifying confusion extended to men, women, and children. By 2 PM the same day, it shook again, the earth cracked, and the shaking became even stronger - countless people fell into the cracks. The same day, the Ise-Tsu area suffered similarly. About 24-25 houses also collapsed, with countless others damaged. Additionally, Shiroko, Kanbe, Matsusaka, and Kuwana areas experienced great earthquakes but with only minor damage.
