During this great earthquake, large fires broke out in various locations. ○In Yoshiwara, Fushimi-chō, Edo-chō, Ageya-chō, Minami-chō, and Kyō-chō - all houses and storehouses within the pleasure quarter burned completely without exception. However, the government notice board outside Ōmon remained, while from the opposite side, Nihon-zutsumi, Amigasa Chaya Tamachi, San'ya, and up to Hori Teppō were burned. ○Similarly, one block north of Dote-shita and Imado Bridge burned. Fire started from the east of Henshōin temple, burning Saru temple, Tori temple and other temples' back areas, Iroha tenements, up to Zuishin gate - no storehouses remained. △Asakusa Main Hall was safe, but various shrines were severely damaged, with several temple areas collapsed. ○In Saruwaka-chō, all three theaters - Kawarasaki, Ichimura, and Nakamura - along with their backstage areas and Shindō street burned completely. North of Morita Kanya's residence remained. The Yabu-no-uchi area, east side, Iōin temple, and shops south of this area burned. The Shitaya section is recorded below. ○At Mukōjima Bokuboji temple, south of Umewaka burial mound, the ground split open and spewed mud. Shirahige Myōjin, Chōmeiji, Ushigozen, and Mimmawari Inari in this area were severely damaged. ○Koume Kawara-chō and Ogura-an burned, with major collapse in all four directions. ○At Honjo Itsutsumedōshi ferry landing, half of Gofune-chō burned, with many collapsed houses in the four directions. ○Ishihara-chō burned, with small estates and townhouses in this area severely damaged.
○Nakanogō Omotechō also burned. ○South of there, from Midori-chō to Hana-chō burned. ▲Estates and townhouses near the north-south drainage canal suffered major collapse. ▲Aioi-chō street was severely damaged, northern estates were severely damaged, and to the east, estates and village houses around Kameido Tenjin, Yanagishima, and Gohyaku Rakan suffered many collapses. ▲Ekōin's corridors collapsed, and towns and estates in the northeast direction were severely damaged. Unkōin and Hōzenji temples in this area, along with Tachibana, were severely damaged. Both families' lower estates and lumber yards were severely damaged. Shōgakuji Bridge, temple district street, Mannen-chō, and Sankaku area suffered major collapse. ▲Saga-chō area severely damaged.
○At Aikawa-chō checkpoint, three houses remained, from there the fire spread south. Kumai-chō, Ōshima-chō, Nakashima-chō, Kitajima-chō, Hamaguri-chō, Kurofune-chō, and Kuroe-chō all burned completely. Both sides of Nakamachi street burned. Sanjūsangen-dō split at the ridge, Susaki Benten severely damaged, major damage extending east to former Hachiman area. ▲West ○Reigan Island, Ōkawabata-chō, Shio-chō, to Minami-shinkawa-chō burned, other areas including the district in front of Matsudaira Echizen-sama suffered major collapse. Minato-chō, Kawaguchi-chō and others severely damaged. To the north, Hakozaki estates and townhouses collapsed. ○Teppōzu Jikken-chō and Akashi-chō burned, Matsudaira Awaji-sama burned, other districts severely damaged. ▲South Hatchōbori, Ashū-sama estate severely damaged. ▲Tsukuda Island fishermen's district burned, same for the south. ▲Tsukiji Honganji was safe, but over fifty temples within the grounds suffered major collapse with many injured. Shōgen Bridge, Kanasugi Bridge area severely damaged. Satsuma-sama, Arima-sama, Naitō-sama, Oda-sama area severely damaged. Akabane, Suitengū were safe. Mita, Kasuga area severely damaged. Fuda-no-tsuji had many major collapses in three directions. ▲Azabu, Meguro area severely damaged. ○Kane-bō-chō burned, major collapse in four directions. ○Kyōbashi area suffered major collapse in four directions. North of there, Minami-kaji-chō, Suzuki-chō, Inari-chō, Kanō estate, Sumi-chō, Gusoku-chō, Yanagi-chō, Kita-kon'ya-chō, Shirauoyanshiki, Sumi-chō, and east to Zaimoku-chō 8th district burned. ○North of there, Nihonbashi street to Sujikai gate, front side suffered minor damage, back side severely damaged. ▲Muro-chō, Jikken-dana, to Imagawa Bridge severely damaged. ▲Kanda severely damaged, detailed earlier.
○In Shitaya direction, both east and west of Ueno Hirokōji severely damaged, but the mountain temple main quarters, inner sacred halls, Taihei and others suffered damage. Gate-front Roku Amida south, Ueno-chō 2nd district, Tokudaiji, Ichijōin burned. North of there, Kitadaimon-chō, Kuromon-chō, Shitaya Dōbō-machi, Ueno retainer estates, Inoue Chikugo-sama collapsed. Ishikawa-sama and Kuroda-sama's front tenements burned and stopped there. ○Similarly, Chōja-chō 1st and 2nd districts, Shitaya-chō 2nd district, substitute land Chōja-chō 2nd district remaining land burned. ○From Shitaya Kurumazaka-chō, Okachi-chō burned, stopping at Takano family.
