このたびの大地震の中で各所で大火災が発生した。○吉原の伏見町・江戸町・揚屋町・南町・京町すべて遊廓内の家屋・蔵は残らず焼失。ただし大門外で御制札の方は残り、向かいより日本堤・編笠茶屋田町・山谷・堀鉄砲まで焼ける。○同じく土手下・今戸橋北方一丁焼失。同所の真崎稲荷まで諸寺院・町々並びに穢多町ともに大破。○同じく馬道通り両側焼失。遍照院東方より出火して申寺・鳥寺その他諸寺の裏々、いろは長屋、同所随身門前まで焼失、土蔵も残った所なし。△浅草本堂は無事だが諸宮は大破、寺中数か所大崩壊。○猿若町の河原崎・市村・中村三座ともに楽屋・新道等残らず焼失。森田勘弥宅より北方は残る。同所藪の内並びに東側、医王院、この南方裏店焼失。同所南馬道焼失。▲同じく東山の宿は残り、花川戸町焼失、川端は残る。△東本願寺は無事だが東門潰れ、寺中九軒潰れる。▲誓願寺・日輪寺・幸龍寺その他門前町数町大きく崩壊。同所慶印寺本堂潰れ、この辺り四方各所大破。○同じく菊屋橋・新堀端半町焼失。
○駒形町両側焼失、西側は川外で止まり、東側は大川まで焼失。諏訪町の諏訪明神焼失。同じく黒舟町焼失、茅寺は残りここで止まる。▲三芳町から御厩河岸まで焼失、蔵前は残るが大破。▲同所茅町大破。▲両国横山町通り・馬喰町通りまで大破だが火災なし。○池之端茅町一丁目・二丁目焼失、出雲様少し焼失、備後様大破。○根津七軒町焼失、この四方の小屋敷・町屋多く潰れる。下谷の分は下に記す。○向島木母寺・梅若塚より南方、大地が裂け泥を吹き出す。白髭明神・長命寺・牛御前・三廻稲荷この辺り大破。○小梅瓦町・小倉庵焼失、この四方大きく崩壊。○本所五つ目渡し場際・五舟町半町焼失、この四方潰れ家多し。○石原町焼失、この辺り小屋敷・町家大破。

○相川町木戸際三軒残り、それより南へ焼け行く。熊井町・大島町・中島町・北島町・蛤町・黒舟町・黒江町残らず焼失。中町通り両側焼失。同じく南方石場の屋敷方は残る。○石原町代地二丁焼失、この辺り八幡表門で止まる。同所石の鳥居倒れ、社内大破、四方の町家・屋敷ともに大きく崩壊。三十三間堂棟で割れる、州崎弁天大破、東方元八幡辺まで大破損。▲西方○霊岸島大川端町・塩町・南新川町まで焼失、その他松平越前様前の町大きく崩壊。湊町・川口町その他大破。同じく北方箱崎御屋敷・町家ともに潰れる。○鉄砲洲十間町・明石町焼失、松平淡路様焼失、その他町々大破。▲南八丁堀阿州様屋敷大破。▲佃島漁師町焼失、同じく南方。▲築地本願寺は無事だが地内五十余か寺大きく崩壊、怪我人多し。この四方御屋敷・飯田町・小田原町その他皆大破。汐留橋・脇坂様・仙台様大破、その他近辺潰れ家多し。○同じく南西方芝口通り町々大破、柴井町裏表焼失。
同じく宇田川町・三島町・神明前この辺大破、言いようがない。▲神明本社は無事、門前町大破。▲増上寺は無事、寺内大破。将監橋・金杉橋この辺大破。薩摩様・有馬様・内藤様・織田様この辺大破。赤羽・水天宮は無事。三田・春日この辺大破。札の辻この三方大崩れ多し。▲麻布・目黒この辺大破。○兼房町焼失、この四方大きく崩壊。○京橋この四方大きく崩壊。同所北方南鍛冶町・鈴木町・稲荷町・狩野屋敷・墨町・具足町・柳町・北紺屋町・白魚屋敷・炭町、東は材木町八丁目まで焼失。○同所北方日本橋通り筋違御門まで表側少し破損、裏側は大破。▲室町・十軒店・今川橋まで大破。▲神田大破、前に詳しくあり。
○下谷の方、上野広小路東西ともに大破だが山内本坊・奥御霊舎・太平その他破損あり。同じく門前六阿弥陀南方・上野町二丁目・徳大寺・一乗院焼失。同じく北大門町・黒門町・下谷同朋町・上野御家来屋敷・井上筑後様潰れ。同所石川殿・黒田様表長家焼失、ここで止まる。○同じく長者町一丁目・二丁目・下谷町二丁目・代地長者町二丁目残地まで焼失。○下谷車坂町より御徒町焼け、高野氏で止まる。同じく向横町・御医師辻元その他小屋敷半町焼失、同所西南。

Guide to the Great Earthquake and Fire Damage Sites in Edo on October 2nd, 2nd Year of Ansei
During this great earthquake, large fires broke out in various locations. ○In Yoshiwara, Fushimi-chō, Edo-chō, Ageya-chō, Minami-chō, and Kyō-chō - all houses and storehouses within the pleasure quarter burned completely without exception. However, the government notice board outside Ōmon remained, while from the opposite side, Nihon-zutsumi, Amigasa Chaya Tamachi, San'ya, and up to Hori Teppō were burned. ○Similarly, one block north of Dote-shita and Imado Bridge burned. Temples, town districts, and eta quarters up to Masaki Inari were all severely damaged. ○Both sides of Umamichi-dōri burned. Fire started from the east of Henshōin temple, burning Saru temple, Tori temple and other temples' back areas, Iroha tenements, up to Zuishin gate - no storehouses remained. △Asakusa Main Hall was safe, but various shrines were severely damaged, with several temple areas collapsed. ○In Saruwaka-chō, all three theaters - Kawarasaki, Ichimura, and Nakamura - along with their backstage areas and Shindō street burned completely. North of Morita Kanya's residence remained. The Yabu-no-uchi area, east side, Iōin temple, and shops south of this area burned. South Umamichi also burned. ▲The Eastern mountain lodgings remained, Hanakawado-chō burned, but the riverbank remained. △Higashi Honganji was safe, but the east gate collapsed and nine buildings within the temple grounds were destroyed. ▲Seigan temple, Nichirin temple, Kōryū temple and other gate-front districts suffered major collapse. Keiion temple's main hall collapsed in this area, with severe damage in all four directions. ○Similarly, Kikuya Bridge and half of Shinhoribata burned.
○Both sides of Komagata-chō burned - the west side stopped at the river's edge, while the east side burned up to the Ōkawa River. Suwa Myōjin in Suwa-chō burned. Kurofune-chō also burned, but Kaya temple remained and the fire stopped there. ▲From Miyoshi-chō to Omaya-gashi burned, Kuramae remained but was severely damaged. ▲Kaya-chō in the same area was severely damaged. ▲From Ryōgoku Yokoyama-chō street to Bakurō-chō street suffered major damage but no fires. ○Ikenohata Kaya-chō first and second districts burned, Izumo-sama suffered minor fire damage, Bingo-sama was severely damaged. ○Nezu Shichiken-chō burned, with many small estates and townhouses in the four directions collapsing. The Shitaya section is recorded below. ○At Mukōjima Bokuboji temple, south of Umewaka burial mound, the ground split open and spewed mud. Shirahige Myōjin, Chōmeiji, Ushigozen, and Mimmawari Inari in this area were severely damaged. ○Koume Kawara-chō and Ogura-an burned, with major collapse in all four directions. ○At Honjo Itsutsumedōshi ferry landing, half of Gofune-chō burned, with many collapsed houses in the four directions. ○Ishihara-chō burned, with small estates and townhouses in this area severely damaged.
○Nakanogō Omotechō also burned. ○South of there, from Midori-chō to Hana-chō burned. ▲Estates and townhouses near the north-south drainage canal suffered major collapse. ▲Aioi-chō street was severely damaged, northern estates were severely damaged, and to the east, estates and village houses around Kameido Tenjin, Yanagishima, and Gohyaku Rakan suffered many collapses. ▲Ekōin's corridors collapsed, and towns and estates in the northeast direction were severely damaged. Overall, it's impossible to record all the collapsed houses in the Honjo area. ▲Hitotsumeashi bridge's stone wall collapsed, blocking traffic. Benten, Saikōji, Hatsune Inari, and Hachiman pilgrimage site in this vicinity had many collapsed houses. ○Ofunakura-mae-chō burned, but the naval estate was safe. ○Fukagawa Rokken-bori burned, from next to Aie River to Yamyōgawa-chō, rice storehouses, and Sarukō Bridge. ○Morishita-chō and Ogasawara suffered minor fires, from Tokiwa-chō 2nd district, Inoue lower estate, Ōta lower estate, to Takahashi burned. ▲Kaigan Daiku-chō, Reiun-in main hall and front gate collapsed, Honshōji temple grounds severely damaged, Reigan-ji front collapsed, Jōshinji front gate collapsed, turtle-eye stones broke, three temples in the grounds collapsed, others severely damaged. Unkōin and Hōzenji temples in this area, along with Tachibana, were severely damaged. Both families' lower estates and lumber yards were severely damaged. Shōgakuji Bridge, temple district street, Mannen-chō, and Sankaku area suffered major collapse. ▲Saga-chō area severely damaged.
○At Aikawa-chō checkpoint, three houses remained, from there the fire spread south. Kumai-chō, Ōshima-chō, Nakashima-chō, Kitajima-chō, Hamaguri-chō, Kurofune-chō, and Kuroe-chō all burned completely. Both sides of Nakamachi street burned. The stone yard estates to the south remained. ○Ishihara-chō substitute land 2nd district burned, stopping at Hachiman front gate in this area. The stone torii there collapsed, shrine grounds severely damaged, townhouses and estates in all four directions suffered major collapse. Sanjūsangen-dō split at the ridge, Susaki Benten severely damaged, major damage extending east to former Hachiman area. ▲West ○Reigan Island, Ōkawabata-chō, Shio-chō, to Minami-shinkawa-chō burned, other areas including the district in front of Matsudaira Echizen-sama suffered major collapse. Minato-chō, Kawaguchi-chō and others severely damaged. To the north, Hakozaki estates and townhouses collapsed. ○Teppōzu Jikken-chō and Akashi-chō burned, Matsudaira Awaji-sama burned, other districts severely damaged. ▲South Hatchōbori, Ashū-sama estate severely damaged. ▲Tsukuda Island fishermen's district burned, same for the south. ▲Tsukiji Honganji was safe, but over fifty temples within the grounds suffered major collapse with many injured. Estates in the four directions, Iida-chō, Odawara-chō and others all severely damaged. Shiodome Bridge, Wakisaka-sama, Sendai-sama severely damaged, many other nearby collapsed houses. ○Southwest of there, districts along Shibaguchi street severely damaged, Shibai-chō front and back burned.
Similarly, Udagawa-chō, Mishima-chō, Shinmei-mae area severely damaged beyond description. ▲Shinmei main shrine was safe, gate-front district severely damaged. ▲Zōjōji was safe, temple interior severely damaged. Shōgen Bridge, Kanasugi Bridge area severely damaged. Satsuma-sama, Arima-sama, Naitō-sama, Oda-sama area severely damaged. Akabane, Suitengū were safe. Mita, Kasuga area severely damaged. Fuda-no-tsuji had many major collapses in three directions. ▲Azabu, Meguro area severely damaged. ○Kane-bō-chō burned, major collapse in four directions. ○Kyōbashi area suffered major collapse in four directions. North of there, Minami-kaji-chō, Suzuki-chō, Inari-chō, Kanō estate, Sumi-chō, Gusoku-chō, Yanagi-chō, Kita-kon'ya-chō, Shirauoyanshiki, Sumi-chō, and east to Zaimoku-chō 8th district burned. ○North of there, Nihonbashi street to Sujikai gate, front side suffered minor damage, back side severely damaged. ▲Muro-chō, Jikken-dana, to Imagawa Bridge severely damaged. ▲Kanda severely damaged, detailed earlier.
○In Shitaya direction, both east and west of Ueno Hirokōji severely damaged, but the mountain temple main quarters, inner sacred halls, Taihei and others suffered damage. Gate-front Roku Amida south, Ueno-chō 2nd district, Tokudaiji, Ichijōin burned. North of there, Kitadaimon-chō, Kuromon-chō, Shitaya Dōbō-machi, Ueno retainer estates, Inoue Chikugo-sama collapsed. Ishikawa-sama and Kuroda-sama's front tenements burned and stopped there. ○Similarly, Chōja-chō 1st and 2nd districts, Shitaya-chō 2nd district, substitute land Chōja-chō 2nd district remaining land burned. ○From Shitaya Kurumazaka-chō, Okachi-chō burned, stopping at Takano family. Similarly, Mukō-yokochō, imperial physician Tsuji-moto and other small estates half-district burned, southwest of there.
○Outside Hitotsubashi gate, Matsudaira Buzen-sama, Hongō Tango burned, severe damage in four directions. ▲Iida-chō, Ban-chō several locations, countless estate severe damage. Same direction Suruga-dai generally moderate damage without fire. ▲From Mikawa-chō to below Suruga-dai severely damaged, Suruga-dai slightly damaged. Outside Shōhei Bridge, Kanda Myōjin, Tsuma-koi Inari, Yushima Tenjin area severely damaged. Hongō street Kaga-sama long houses damaged. From Komagome Oiwake, Asuka mountain road, Kirigaya mountain base, Somei area severely damaged. ▲West of there, Goji-in, waterworks severely damaged. Denzū-in, nearby areas severely damaged. ▲Zōshigaya, Nedzu mountain area not particularly damaged. ○Northeast Negishi, Kanasugi, Minowa area severely damaged. ○North Nakamura-chō, Kozukahara-chō, Senjū burned, many collapsed houses in nearby villages. ○Within imperial castle, opposite Tatsu-no-kuchi, Sakai-sama, Ōoka-sama severely damaged. Within Wada-kura gate, Higo-sama, Matsudaira Shimōsa-sama, Matsudaira Iga-sama, Matsudaira Genba-sama severely damaged. Same location Tatsu-no-kuchi Abe-sama east side collapsed. From Yashiro-gashi to Baba-saki gate collapsed. ▲Daimyō-kōji and other various locations severely damaged, with related fires, briefly recorded.
