現代語訳

弘化四年（1847年）未の三月二十四日、夜四つ時（午後10時頃）に大地震が起き、さらに火災も発生した。善光寺の本堂・大門・宿坊のうち三ヶ所が残った。また、四月十八日の未の刻（午後2時頃）に山津波（土石流・崩壊）により丹波川へ水があふれ出し、松代城内まで大水が流れ込んだ。死者の数は知れず、村々六十五ヶ所ほどが残らず流され、およそ二里半から五里にわたって一面が白い海のようになった。

On the night of the 24th day of the 3rd month of Kōka 4 (1847), at the Hour of the Pig (around 10 p.m.), a great earthquake struck, followed by fires. Of the Zenkoji Temple's main hall, great gate, and lodging quarters, three sections survived. Furthermore, on the 18th day of the 4th month, at the Hour of the Ram (around 2 p.m.), a landslide/debris flow caused the Tanbagawa River to overflow, sending floodwaters all the way into Matsushiro Castle. The number of deaths was beyond counting; approximately 65 villages were completely swept away, and over an area of roughly two and a half to five ri (approximately 10–20 km), everything became a vast white sea.
