まごもひこも月々に十二ひきづゝうむときに十二月にはなに

『第五』ねずみ算の事
○正月にねずみの父母が出て子を十二匹産む。親と共に十二匹【十四匹の誤り】になる。このねずみ二月には子もまた子を十二匹ずつ産むゆえに親と共に九十八匹になる。このようにして月に一度ずつ親も子も又孫もひ孫も月々に十二匹ずつ産むときに十二月にはどれほどになるかということ。

In this manner, once a month, parents, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren each produce twelve offspring monthly. The question is: how many will there be by December?
