神擁護之手を演させ給ふ
らんと感せぬ者は無之候由
就中山中大安寺村大安寺
和尚右地震ニ驚方丈之間
より庭え飛出可申候心得二而
台所え飛下り候処俄ニ地割致シ
転ひ落行衛相知レ不申右ニ付
数十人二而堀穿候得共死骸
一向相見え不申候掛る奇談
珍説数多御座候得共紙面ニ
難尽九午【牛カ】之一毛相記借貴
覧候恐々謹言

現代語訳

神仏が擁護の手を差し延べられたのであろうと感じない者はいなかったということです。

特に山中大安寺村の大安寺の和尚は、この地震に驚いて方丈の間から庭へ飛び出そうと思い、台所へ飛び降りたところ、突然地面が割れて転落し、行方が分からなくなりました。そのため数十人で掘って探しましたが、遺体は全く見つかりませんでした。

このような奇談や珍しい話は数多くありますが、紙面では尽くしがたく、九牛の一毛ほどを記して貴殿にご覧いただきます。恐れながら謹んで申し上げます。

No one could help but feel that the gods and Buddha had extended their protective hands.

Particularly, the head priest of Daianji Temple in Daianji Village in the mountains was so startled by the earthquake that he intended to rush from his quarters to the garden, but when he jumped down to the kitchen, the ground suddenly split open and he fell through, disappearing without a trace. Dozens of people dug to search for him, but his body was never found.

There are many such strange tales and unusual stories, but they cannot all be exhausted on paper. I record just a hair from nine oxen for your perusal. I humbly and respectfully submit this.
