現代語訳
兵法において黒眼定身の法を知る者は少ない。すでに太山（左膳）はその技を会得している。
後に兵蔵が左膳と術を争うことがあったという。
清正の臣下である杵渕小源太は
早駆けの名人で、高藤に「酒を飲ませて福島様を」と言った。
斉藤「いくら早駆けでも」杵渕「今は小遣いも残っていない」
斉藤「いくらあってもだめだろう。それなら私が金五十両を取り出そう」
「五十両のことはさておき、十両でもあれば」
斉藤「すべて渡す」杵渕「ありがたいことだ」
伏見大地震で閉門が崩れたという。
荒川「君のご懇意の方ではない。仲裁人を」
美濃国大垣二十万石の増田長盛、
三条橋で両者が面会することになり、清正は夜分に忍んで向かった。
江州水口の長束大蔵大輔は囲碁をしていた。
家来に「待たせておけ」と言いつけた。
清正は気がはやり待ちくたびれて、両人の碁石を（投げつけた）。音がした。
音がするのはちんちん、鐘の音のようで（ちんとん、ちんちん、まことである）
指で計算して寝たり起きたり。
清正が様子を窺うと、臣下が仲裁を、長束は悪口を（言った）。

Kiyomasa grew impatient from the long wait and (threw) the go stones of both players, making a sound.
The sound was like "chin-chin," like the sound of a bell (chin-ton, chin-chin, truly so).
Counting with fingers, lying down and getting up.
When Kiyomasa peered in, his retainer was mediating, while Natsuka was speaking ill (of him).
