朝鮮は古代の三韓（馬韓、辰韓、弁韓）の地である。中世には新羅、百済、高麗に分かれ、後の時代に統合されて朝鮮と称するようになった。国土は八つの道に分かれており、寒冷な国である。京畿道は北極から南に三十八度の地点にあり、釜山浦は三十六度に位置する。
