東京（とんきん）は古より唐土に属する国にて中華の文字を
用ゆ詞（ことは）は尤別なり古唐土より交趾（かうち）といひしは此国
なり末代に至て両国にわかれ東辺を東京（とんきん）といひ
南辺を廣南（たいなん）といへり今は廣南のみを交趾と号す
風俗相同しき故に別に交趾を図せすいつれも
煖国也 北極地を出る事凡十五六度
現代語訳
東京（トンキン）は古くから中国に属する国で、中国の文字を用いている。言葉はとりわけ異なっている。古く中国では交趾（コウチ）と言ったのがこの国である。後の時代になって二国に分かれ、東側を東京（トンキン）と言い、南側を広南（タイナン）と言うようになった。今では広南のみを交趾と呼んでいる。風俗が似ているため、別に交趾の図は描かない。いずれも暖かい国である。北極から出ること約十五、六度である。
英語訳
Tonkin has belonged to China since ancient times and uses Chinese characters. The language is particularly different [from Chinese]. What China anciently called Kōchi (Cochinchina) was this country. In later ages it divided into two countries, with the eastern region called Tonkin and the southern region called Tainan (Cochinchina). Now only the southern region is called Kōchi. Because their customs are similar, we do not separately illustrate Kōchi. Both are warm countries, located approximately fifteen to sixteen degrees north of the equator.
