賢人（けんじん）明（あきら）かならんとすれば佞人（ねいじん）之（これ）を陰（かく）す茲（こゝ）に加（か）
藤（とう）主計（かづへ）頭（のかみ）清正（きよまさ）は朝鮮（てうせん）対陣（たいぢん）の勲功（くんこう）衆（しゆう）に秀（ひい）て
抜群（はつくん）たるも小西行長（こにしゆきなが）が讒奏（ざんそう）淀君（よどきみ）が鶯舌（あうぜつ）に罹（かゝ）
り却（かへつ）て太閤（たいかう）殿下（てんか）の気色（けしき）を損（そん）じ自邸（してい）に幽（いう）
閉（へい）せらる時（とき）に伏見（ふしみ）の大地震動（だいじしんどう）し民屋（みんおく）は
更（さら）なり城中（しやうちう）の殿舎（でんしや）悉（こと〴〵）く斜（なゝめ）に傾（かたぶ）き諸人（しよにん）色（いろ）
を失（うしな）ふ折（おり）しも清（きよ）正は君前（くんぜん）を憚（はゞか）る身（み）なれど
主君（しゆくん）が御 身（み）大切（たいせつ）なりと警備（けいび）のため従兵（じうへい）を

現代語訳
井上大九郎
加藤主計頭清正
賢人が世に明らかになろうとすれば、佞人がこれを隠してしまうものである。加藤主計頭清正は、朝鮮出兵における戦功が衆に秀でて抜群であったにもかかわらず、小西行長の讒言と淀君の口添えによって太閤殿下のご機嫌を損ね、自邸に幽閉されていた。その折、伏見に大地震が起き、民家はもちろんのこと、城中の殿舎もことごとく斜めに傾き、人々は皆、顔色を失った。そのような時、清正は主君の御前をはばかる身ではあったが、主君のお命が大切であるとして、警備のために従兵を引き連れて駆けつけた。主君（太閤）はすでに桃山御殿の林の中に退かれており、清正をご覧になって、その誠実な忠義の心にご感銘を受けられ、直ちにご赦免になったという。

Kato Kazue-no-kami Kiyomasa
When a man of wisdom and virtue is about to be recognized, a treacherous man will move to conceal him. Kato Kazue-no-kami Kiyomasa had distinguished himself with outstanding military merit during the Korean campaign, surpassing all others. Yet, ensnared by the slanderous reports of Konishi Yukinaga and the honeyed words of Lady Yodo, he had fallen out of favor with His Excellency the Taiko and was confined to his own residence. At that moment, a great earthquake struck Fushimi: not only the houses of the common people, but every hall and building within the castle tilted at an angle, and all who were present lost the color from their faces. Even though Kiyomasa was one who ought to refrain from appearing before his lord, he judged that his master's life was paramount, and so he led his retainers and rushed to his lord's side. The lord (the Taiko) had already withdrawn into the grove of the Momoyama Palace, and upon seeing Kiyomasa, he was deeply moved by his sincere loyalty, and it is said that he granted him an immediate pardon.
