**[Right folio]** —was to take the field as well. The Azai father and son waited for the Asakura reinforcements, resolving to strike at Nobunaga's camp from their side. Nobunaga had established his main camp at a place called Tatsugahana on the Yokoyama front, and throughout the night of the twenty-seventh, many fires were visible in the direction of the enemy. Declaring, "It appears that Azai intends to relieve Yokoyama—we shall strike from our side as well," he arranged his battle formation in thirteen divisions. To contain Yokoyama Castle, Niwa Gorōzaemon, Hirate Kemotsu, and Shindō Yamashiro-no-kami were stationed with over three thousand horsemen. Nobunaga's own formations were: Sakai Ukon, Ikeda Katsusaburō, Kinoshita Tōkichirō, Shibata Shuri-no-suke, Ujiie Hitachi-nyūdō Bokuzen, Iga Iga-no-kami, Sakuma Emon-no-jō, Akechi Jūbei, Hachiya Hyōgo-no-kami, and Mori Sanzaemon; then Nobunaga's own banner corps; then Tsuda Samanosuke and Hayashi Sado-no-kami—thirteen divisions in all. On the western flank, with Inaba Iyo-nyūdō Itttetsu at the vanguard, were the lord Tokugawa and his retainers: Sakai Saemon Tadatsugu, Sakakibara Kohēta Yasumasa, Ogasawara Yohachirō Kiyotsugu, and Honda Heihachirō Tadakatsu; then the lord Tokugawa's own banner corps; **[Left folio]** and then Honda Bungo-no-kami Hirotaka, Matsudaira Sakon Yasuchika, and others stood in formation. In Azai Bizen-no-kami Nagamasa's force, Isono Tanba-no-kami, Takamiya Mikawa-no-kami, Ōu Yamato-no-kami, Azai Utanosuke, Akata Shinano-no-kami, Imamura Kamon-no-suke, and Rendaiji Hitachi-no-suke—over six thousand horsemen in all—took up positions at Nomura to the east. Asakura Magosaburō Kagetake led seven thousand Echizen troops and deployed to the west of Mitamura. At dawn on the twenty-eighth day of the sixth month, around the hour of the Hare, Azai advanced his forces, crossed the Anegawa River, and attacked Nobunaga's camp. In the vanguard, Isono Tanba-no-kami Hidemasa and Sakai Ukon-shōgen Shigeyasu engaged in battle; Isono gained the upper hand and routed Sakai's force. Ikeda Katsusaburō Nobuteru entered the fray in turn, but the Kōhoku forces were strong, and Ikeda too was defeated and withdrew. Kinoshita and Shibata were also pushed back, and the situation appeared perilous, when on the western flank, the Tōtōmi forces attacked Asakura's more than seven thousand horsemen with a force of three thousand men. At first the Echizen forces appeared to have the advantage, but eventually the Tōtōmi forces gained the upper hand, routing the Asakura side. Maenami and Kobayashi—
