At that time, the winter of Kōka 3 (1846), year of the horse, was warm, and spring grasses and flowers sprouted. The mid-spring of Kōka 4, year of the sheep, was like mid-summer. Particularly on the 15th day it was like midsummer, on the 17th day it was like late autumn, and on the 18th day, frost fell on the eighty-eighth night and the mulberry flowers withered severely. In the mountainous areas, thin ice formed on mountain pools. The peach blossoms that were about to bloom were damaged by frost and ice. Thunder roared in mid-spring, and the climate changes were like drifting clouds.
