ラニウク」トイヘル国地震ニ因テ一国皆地下
ニ陥没シ出ルヿ不＿カエリ能死モヤラズ生モヤラス後
先年程立テ今ノ「イタリヤ」「ドイツ」地方ニテ

「ヘラニウム（ヘルクラネウム）」と呼ばれる国が地震によって国全体が地下に陥没し、そこから出ることも戻ることもできず、死んだのか生きているのかもわからない状態になった。その後、数百年を経て、現在の「イタリア」「ドイツ」地方において、この出来事をむかしの伝承として聞き及んでいた者たちが地下を掘り起こし、数多くの貴重な宝物・名画・金銀の器財を夥しく得たという。これは地下に空洞ができ、城郭の重みによって地下に陥没し、その上に高山や幾重もの山嶺が落ち重なって平地のようになったものである。靛山（著者）が按ずるに、『坤輿図識補』に言うには、往古「ローマ」の有名な府（都市）がこの災害に係わり、皆土中の物となり、後に千六百五十年を経て再びその府を掘り出したとあるが、これは本件とは異なる。これは火山の噴出によるものである。

Centuries later, people in the lands now known as "Italy" and "Germany," having heard of this event through old traditions, excavated the underground and reportedly obtained vast quantities of precious treasures, famous paintings, gold and silver vessels, and great riches. This occurred because a cavity formed underground, and under the weight of castle structures the land collapsed below, while great mountains and layered ridges fell upon it, making it level like flat ground. The author Tenzan notes that the book *Konkyo Zushiki Ho* (Supplementary Illustrated Records of the Earth's Geography) states that in ancient times, a famous city of "Rome" was involved in this disaster and became entirely buried in the earth, and that it was excavated again 1,650 years later — but this refers to a different event.
