此書（このしよ）は古（いにしへ）の聖賢（せいけん）の語（ご）にて代々（よゝ）人口（じんこう）に膾炙（くわいしや）せるを予（よ）
頑愚（ぐはんぐ）なりといへども諸書（しよ〳〵）の要語（ようご）を摘（つみ）年々に拾（ひろ）ひ月々に
集（あつ）め且（かつ）句（く）ごとの上（うへ）に鄙言（ひごん）を以（もつ）て抄（しやう）し一書（いつしよ）となして家族（かぞく）の
幼童（ようどう）読書（どくしょ）の階梯（かいてい）にと与（あた）へけるを友（とも）なりし人の梓（し）に鏤（ちりは）め
世（よ）の幼童（ようどう）の便（たより）にもせよといへるにいなみがたく金言童子（きんげんどうじ）
教（けう）の名（な）を蒙（かうむ）らしめ書林（しよりん）に属（ぞく）しぬ古（いにしへ）より諸家（しよか）の著述（ちよじゆつ）多（おほ）し
といへども要句（ようく）すくなし初学（しよがく）の幼童（ようどう）此書を得（ゑ）て聖賢（せいけん）を遠（とを）しと
せず即（すなはち）今（いま）教（おしへ）を承（うけたまは）ると思（おも）ひ心腑（しんふ）に入（いれ）てよまば益（ゑき）を得（う）る事

金言童子教序（きんげんどうじきょうじょ）
この書は古代の聖賢の言葉で、代々人々の間で広く知られているものを、私は
愚かではありますが、様々な書物の重要な言葉を選び、年々拾い集め、月々に
まとめ、また句ごとの上に分かりやすい説明を付けて注釈し、一冊の書物として家族の
幼い子供たちの読書の階段（入門書）にと与えたところ、友人がこれを出版して
世の幼い子供たちの便宜にもなるようにと言うので、断りがたく「金言童子
教」という名前を付けさせて、書店に委ねました。古来より諸家の著述は多く
ありますが、要点となる句は少ないものです。初学の幼い子供たちがこの書を得て、聖賢を遠い存在と
思わず、すなわち今その教えを受けていると思い、心の奥深くに入れて読めば、得る益は
多いでしょう。もっとも一句も私的な考えから出たものではないので、愚かな編集だからといって
あえて軽んずることはありません。

Preface to Kingan Dōji-kyō (Golden Words for Children's Education)
This book contains the words of ancient sages and worthy men that have been widely known and quoted among people for generations. Although I am
foolish, I have selected important words from various books, gathering them year by year, collecting them month by month,
and adding plain explanations above each phrase as annotations, making it into one book to serve as
a ladder (primer) for reading instruction for the young children of my family. When a friend suggested engraving it on woodblocks
to make it convenient for the young children of the world as well, I could not refuse, so I had it given the name "Golden Words for Children's
Education" and entrusted it to a publisher. Although there have been many writings by various scholars since ancient times,
the essential phrases are few. If beginning students and young children obtain this book and do not think of the sages as distant,
but rather think they are receiving their teachings now, and read with it deeply embedded in their hearts, the benefits they gain will be
many. Since not even one phrase comes from my private thoughts,
do not dare to despise it just because it is a foolish compilation.
