忠有孝有勇智仁天然と備るもの歟
一大高源五器用人に勝れ弁舌之者なれはこそ大坂町人綿屋
新兵衛と変名して吉良家江出入之数寄者に因み謀をなし
万端を伺ひ知りて事をなし侍る其功一方ならす
一神崎与五郎吉良家の辺に商人となり美作屋善兵衛と号し
初め岡嶋八十右衛門に附属して可罷下処八十右衛門煩に付内蔵助此神崎
に申付敵伐伺せける心労之体不大形赤城盟伝と云書なし
置る也格式軽き賊族なれとも志の実有事を見て遠検に頼
ける也
現代語訳
忠義があり孝行があり勇気と智恵と仁愛を天然に備えた者であろうか。
一、大高源五は器用で弁舌に優れた者であったからこそ、大坂の町人「綿屋新兵衛」と変名して、吉良家に出入りする茶人に取り入って計略を巡らし、万事を探り知って事を成し遂げた。その功績は並大抵ではない。
一、神崎与五郎は吉良家の辺りで商人となり「美作屋善兵衛」と名乗った。初めは岡嶋八十右衛門に付き従って江戸に下る予定であったが、八十右衛門が病気になったため、内蔵助がこの神崎に申し付けて敵の様子を探らせた。その心労の様子は並大抵ではなく、「赤城盟伝」という書物を著した。身分は低い武士であったが、志の真実があることを見て、重要な任務を託したのである。

1. Kanzaki Yogorō became a merchant in the vicinity of the Kira house and took the name "Mimasaka-ya Zenbei." Initially, he was to accompany Okajima Hachijūemon down to Edo, but when Hachijūemon fell ill, Kuranosuke assigned this Kanzaki to spy on the enemy. His mental strain was considerable, and he wrote a book called "Akagi Meiden" (Record of the Red Castle Alliance). Though he was a retainer of low rank, seeing that his resolve was genuine, they entrusted him with this important reconnaissance.
