上田の鼻紙が語る：
「私は草履や草鞋と一緒に置かれていましたが、あるお屋敷の下女が宿下がり（休暇）に来て芝居へ行くというので、たった一丁八文で買われました。翌日芝居の切り落とし（安い席）へ参りましたが、『八文で買った物だ』と思って、まず真っ黒な襟の回りを拭き回し、弁当の煮しめや焼き飯をのせ、しまいには門で捨てみかんを食らっては手を拭き」

The nose paper (tissue) from Ueda speaks:
"I was placed together with straw sandals and rope sandals, but a maid from a certain mansion came on her day off to go to the theater, and bought me for just one chō and eight mon. The next day we went to the cheap seats at the theater, and thinking 'this cost only eight mon,' she first wiped around her pitch-black collar, then used me as a plate for her lunch box's simmered vegetables and fried rice, and finally, at the gate, after eating discarded oranges, she wiped her hands on me."
