此頃地震止まさるに小児婦女あるひは病る人なとは
世上の虚談にまよひておちおそれ心をいたましむる人
多し故に地震のおこる所の古人の説をもらさす挙
又大震の後小動にて止むといふ歴代のためしをのせて
人 〻の心を安からしめんとす又地震せんとする前に
其しらせある現在の譚を出して用心のたよりとも
なれかしと急に上木して四方の心友に贈る事しかる也

この頃地震が止まないので、小児や婦女、あるいは病人などは、世間の根拠のない噂に惑わされて恐れおののき、心を痛めている人が多い。そのため、地震が起こる原因についての古人の説を漏らさず挙げ、また大地震の後は小さな揺れで終わるという歴代の事例を載せて、人々の心を安らかにしようとする。また地震が起ころうとする前にその前兆がある現実の話を出して、用心の手がかりともなればと思い、急いで出版して四方の心友に贈ることにしたのである。

【Note】
Recently, as earthquakes have not ceased, many people—children, women, and the sick—have been misled by groundless rumors circulating in society, living in fear and distressing their hearts. Therefore, I shall comprehensively present the theories of ancient scholars regarding the causes of earthquakes, and record historical examples showing that after major earthquakes, the tremors subside to minor movements, in order to put people's minds at ease. I also present contemporary accounts of premonitory signs that appear before earthquakes are about to occur, hoping these may serve as aids for preparedness. I have hastily published this work to present to my dear friends in all directions.
