なまづにからだかかみなりせなかにひをしよつて
いおでなさるかまことにくといおなりたねへ

それたからくとうさまといふたとヱ

〽コレサ〳〵わらいことしやァねへ
くいちのわれやくとうさまとうたにもうたふ
くれへなあらたかなかみさまだから

〽なむくとうめうわうさままつはわたくしもふなんにいのちの
たすかりましておもひかけないせにまうけをいたしましたゆゑしちを
うけやうとおもひましたかさいわいしちやかやけましたゆゑやまのかみのゆるしか
てゝあたらしいきものかきられるやうになりましてありかとうこさります

「あら、あの神様は、額（ひたい）は親父（おやじ）みたいな顔で、顔はナマズに、体は雷（かみなり）、背中に火を背負って出てらっしゃる。まことに苦とい（辛い）お生まれだねえ。なんでえ、それだから『苦動様』というんだとよ。」
（大笑い）

「これさ、これさ、笑いごとじゃあねえ。九一（くいち）の割り……苦動様と歌にも歌う、これほどあらたかな神様だから、罰が当たりかねえ、とっころされるぞ。」

「南無・苦動明王様。まず、私もご難なく命が助かりまして、思いがけない仕事に儲けをいたしましたゆえ、質（しち）を受け出そうと思いましたが、さいわい質屋が焼けましたゆえ、山の神（かみさん）の許しが出て、新しい着物が着られるようになりまして、ありがとうございます。この上は、このご利益にまた普請（ふしん）の敵（手木＝大工道具）が当たったし、普請（ふ）ん手入りの店竹（たけ）をすこしずつお揺すりください。」

"My oh my! That deity over there has a forehead like an old man, a face like a catfish, a body like thunder, and is carrying fire on its back! What a terribly hard-suffering birth it must have had. What's that? — *That's why* they call it 'Kutō-sama' (the Lord of Hardship)!"
*(Bursts into laughter: Oho ho ho ho!)*

"Now, now, this is no laughing matter! Even songs sing of Kutō-sama along with the nine-to-one odds [of ruin] — this is such a potent and efficacious deity that you'd better not invite divine punishment. You'll get struck dead, I tell you!"

On top of that, since I have received your divine favor, the work tools for construction have come my way, so please continue to shake things a little bit more so the reconstruction business keeps booming!"
