天地のくしきたくみ 上宮田
を人の世につくりうかへし 菊名
船そこの船ずさともは 松輪
はやうくが路をいてたゝせ 金田
ぬれは きのふよりこゝに
まちしなるへし船のはつる 毘沙門
をみて やかて小舟ともいだ 宮川 向ヶ崎
させてむかふ いざとて此舟に
うつりて人々くかにおりたつ 三崎
むくつけへうもみなおりたつ
此うらわはきしふかく浪あらう
して 舟もつなきかたしとてつねに
くかに引あげてありのりいだすときは
八重浪のよするひまうかゝひてやをら
つきおろすなり此浦つゝきの村々は

現代語訳
天地の不思議な技巧を人の世に作り浮かべた船であるから、船底の船頭たちよ、早くこの航路を出て立たせよ。昨日からここで待っていたであろう船の出発するのを見て、やがて小舟どもを出させて迎える。「さあ」と言ってこの舟に移って、人々は陸に降り立つ。恐ろしい顔をした者たちも皆降り立つ。この浦は岸が深く波が荒くて、船も綱で繋ぐのが困難だと言って、いつも陸に引き上げてあり、乗り出すときは大波の寄せる間を見計らってそっと沖に降ろすのである。この浦続きの村々は大体同じような様子であった。
遅れた恐ろしい顔の人が、自分の舟と自分の舟人で漕がせて来たが、波に打ち返されて舟がひっくり返り、皆の人が海に落ちてしまった。ああ大変だと思う間に、さすがにそのような海には慣れているので、舟に取りつき、やっとのことで陸に着いた。

The villages along this bay were generally similar in character.
A late-arriving fierce-looking man who had come rowing with his own boat and his own boatmen was struck back by the waves, his boat capsized, and everyone fell into the sea. Just as we thought "Oh no!" - but being accustomed to such waters, they grabbed onto the boat and barely managed to reach shore.
