火消之面々猶又相揃候哉可被致吟味事    附 御供行列之次第御供目付中指図可有之候間可被得其意候 一御奉書御到来御出馬之時磬板為打可申候間可被得其意候目付中  指図次第御先火消ゟ段々御門内ゟ乗出し可被申候歩行御供之面々  持槍之儀小玄冠前へ集め置押之者差図次第段々可罷越事 一騎馬之面々馬より下り立候節持槍家来とも馬之際に差置可被申候  猥に外へ不罷越候様に兼て可被申付置候惣供槍之儀押之者指図之所に  罷在候様是又可被申付置候    附 途中ゟ御急之節は御馬廻りゟ拍子木為打可申候間段々      急き可申候 一御場所にて防候節は早々御人数差図之所へ上り防可申事    附 御人数下し候節は拍子木為打可申事 一惣またもの依 御下知火消被 仰付儀可有之候間其節無滞罷出指図次第  火を□候様に兼て可被申付置事  右之趣面々被得其意下々迄堅可被申付候以上        五月      目付中         各中 享保元酉五月二日之留 一元文四未十二月廿五日本多中務大輔様へ松平大膳大夫様留守居小笠原仁左衛門被召呼御用人佐藤与一兵衛  を以御口達之趣 △東叡山御山内若出火并御山近火之節向後は町火消之者御山内入込被仰付候間家来之者共異論  等不仕候様に可申付候尤火之御番代り合之時分は段々申次候様にとの事 ▲一御場所出火有之御人数罷越候節瓦屋ねへ無作と上り不申様に可被申付候尤近火にて火を防候節は   格別之事に候此段寄々可申達旨に候間組支配家来末々に至迄兼て可被申付置候以上     四月   右△印は御火消役懸り頭立候面々へ御書付之趣可申達旨▲印は同断夫々可申達旨於江戸表被仰付夫々   相触候由申来る

現代語訳

Whether the firefighting personnel have all assembled should be examined.    Note: The order of the attendant procession will be instructed by the attendant inspectors, so understand this. 1. When an official letter arrives and departure on horseback occurs, a wooden bell will be struck, so understand this. Following the inspectors' instructions, advance firefighters will gradually ride out from within the gates. Regarding spears carried by walking attendants, these should be gathered in front of the small entrance, and they should proceed gradually according to the spear-bearer supervisor's instructions. 1. When mounted personnel dismount from their horses, retainers carrying spears should place them near the horses. Instruct in advance that they should not carelessly wander elsewhere. Regarding all attendant spears, also instruct that they should remain where the spear-bearer supervisor directs.    Note: When urgency arises en route, the horse guards will strike wooden clappers, so everyone should hurry accordingly. 1. Since firefighting duties may be ordered again by command, at such times go out without delay and extinguish fires according to instructions - instruct this in advance. Genbun 4, Year of the Sheep (1739), December 25th: Ogasawara Nizaemon, caretaker of Lord Matsudaira Daizen-dayū, was summoned to Lord Honda Nakatsukasa-dayū and received oral instructions through retainer Satō Yoichibei: △ Regarding Tōeisan temple grounds, if fires break out or fires occur near the temple, henceforth town firefighters will be ordered to enter the temple grounds, so instruct retainers not to raise objections. Naturally, during fire guard duty rotations, this should be communicated step by step. ▲ 1. When fires occur at sites and personnel proceed there, instruct them not to climb carelessly onto tile roofs. Naturally, when preventing nearby fires, this is a special matter. Since this point should be communicated to each group, instruct in advance from group supervisors down to all retainers and subordinates. That is all.    April The above △ mark indicates matters to be communicated to leading firefighting duty personnel through written notices; the ▲ mark indicates the same, with respective communications.
