綦毋（きぶ）は復姓（にじみやうじ）なり宜春県（ぎしゆんけん）の尉（したやく）より洛陽県（らくやうけん）の尉（したやく）にうつる此度（このたび）あらたに洛陽県（らくやうけん）の大（たい）
邑（ゆふ）を加（くわへ）られ尉（したやく）となり行（ゆか）るゝが印（ゐん）の綬（ひも）は役（やく）が軽（かろ）きゆゑ仍（なを）黄（きいろ）にあるすべて役人（やくにん）には
天子（てんし）役々（やく〳〵）の印（ゐん）を下（くだ）さるゆゑ装束（しやうぞく）の綬（ひも）に印（ゐん）をまいておる重（おも）き役（やく）と軽（かろ）き役（やく）と印（ゐん）の

現代語訳

綦毋三に寄す

新たに大邑を加えられ綬は依然として黄色である。近頃、飾り気のない単車とともに洛陽へ向かわれる。丞相府を一度通り過ぎれば、風流な令公の香りに三度接することであろう。南川の粳稲の花が県境を侵すほど実り、西嶺の雲霞の色が堂に満ちている。皆が言うには、賢者を進言すれば上から褒賞を蒙るものだと。君が幾年で台郎となるかを見守ろう。

【解説】
綦毋は複合姓である。宜春県の尉から洛陽県の尉に転任する。今回新たに洛陽県の大邑を加えられて尉となって赴任するが、印章の綬は職位が軽いため依然として黄色である。すべて役人には天子が職位に応じた印章を下賜されるため、装束の綬に印章を帯びている。重職と軽職では印章の綬の色が異なる。職を免ぜられればその印章は返納する。そこで貴殿は奢りのない人であるから、近頃飾りのない質素な車で洛陽に向かわれる。貴殿は諸公に良く思われているから、丁重に扱われるであろう。一度丞相府を通り過ぎても、風流な令公の香雅な尚書にも接することであろう。さて、治政の良いことを褒めて農業をよく勧めるため、南州のあたりの粳稲の花も盛んに実って隣の県まで及ぶであろう。それによく治まっているため公事訴訟もないから、役所に詰めていても終日暇で、西嶺の雲霞の色が堂に満ちわたるのを見るばかりであろう。皆がともに評議して言うには、天子に賢者を推薦すると褒賞を蒙るため、君は幾年もたたないうちに人々が推薦して台郎となることを見守ろうと噂をする。台郎は尚書郎のことである。

Addressed to Qiwu San

Newly granted a large district, your cord remains yellow. Recently, you head toward Luoyang with a simple, unadorned carriage. Once passing by the Chancellor's residence, you will thrice encounter the refined fragrance of the Duke. The glutinous rice flowers of Nanchuan invade the county borders, and the colors of clouds and mist from the western peaks fill the hall. Everyone says that those who recommend worthy men receive rewards from above. Let us see in how many years you will become a Court Gentleman.

[Commentary]
Qiwu is a compound surname. He transfers from magistrate of Yichun County to magistrate of Luoyang County. This time he is newly granted the large district of Luoyang County and goes to take up the post of magistrate, but the cord of his seal remains yellow because his position is of lower rank. All officials receive seals from the Emperor according to their respective positions, so they wear the seals on cords attached to their official dress. High and low positions have different colored cords for their seals. When dismissed from office, that seal must be returned. Since you are a person without extravagance, you recently head toward Luoyang in a simple, unadorned carriage. Since you are well regarded by various lords, you will be treated with courtesy. Even when passing by the Chancellor's residence once, you will also associate with refined and elegant ministers. Now, praising your good governance and encouraging agriculture well, the glutinous rice flowers in the Nanzhou area will flourish and bear fruit abundantly, extending even to neighboring counties. Because of this good governance, there are no legal disputes or lawsuits, so even when stationed at the office, you have leisure all day long and can only watch the colors of clouds and mist from the western peaks fill the hall. Everyone discusses together and says that since recommending worthy men to the Emperor brings rewards, let us watch how in just a few years people will recommend you to become a Court Gentleman. "Court Gentleman" refers to a Gentleman of the Imperial Secretariat.
