(Continued from the previous page) When [Matsudaira Sennosuke] made his visit to the Ōoku (Inner Chambers) of the Main Keep [of Edo Castle], the Sukiyagashira (head of the tea ceremony attendants) was brought along as an escort; however, he did not enter the formal reception room (o-zashiki), and instead received meals and refreshments at the Bairin (Plum Grove) guest reception room. As [Sennosuke] was still of young age, this arrangement was as described above; however, since there would be difficulties if [the escort] did not enter the o-zashiki, from the following year of Mi (巳) onward, the matter was communicated accordingly, and [the escort] was permitted to enter the said o-zashiki and receive meals there. For subsequent visits to the Ōoku in later years, the same arrangement as above applied annually. Furthermore, no gifts (hairyōmono) were received. The above is hereby stated. Retainer of Matsudaira Sennosuke 13th day, 1st month Tsuda Kuemon (Moriyuki) [End] Item: On the 14th day of the 1st month, a summons was received from the Senior Administrative Official (Goyōban), Lord Hotta Sagami-no-Kami (Masaaki), and the Rusui (castle keeper/steward in absence) Tsuda Kuemon (Moriyuki) appeared before him, where, through an intermediary official (yōnin), it was communicated that the names and official titles of those who had accompanied Ogi-maru-sama on his first visit to the Ōoku should be written down and submitted. Accordingly, as a memorandum: On the 15th day of the 4th month of Enkyō 1 (1744, the year of Tatsu/Dragon), at the time of Ogi-maru-sama's visit to the Ōoku — one document listing the names of the twelve persons who entered the o-zashiki (the Sukiyagashira being the one person who did not enter the o-zashiki), and one document listing the names of the five persons who escorted [the party] as far as the Ohiroshiki (the outer administrative quarters of the Ōoku). On the 28th day of the 4th month of [Enkyō] 2 (1745, the year of Mi/Snake), at the time of the visit to the Ōoku, thirteen persons including the Sukiyagashira entered the o-zashiki —
