On this occasion of having duly succeeded to the headship of the family, I am deeply grateful to have received the command that I shall faithfully carry out all duties—beginning with the role of advance guard (osaki-te)—in accordance with the family's standing and precedents.
The laws and ordinances of the shogunate go without saying; with regard to the regulations of this domain, any unlawful conduct shall be strictly prohibited in accordance with the dictates handed down by successive lords. From the lowest members of the household to those in the rural villages and towns, all shall firmly uphold these rules, diligently attend to their occupations without negligence, and must never—day or night—be remiss in the way of loyalty and filial piety.
That I am able to occupy this position today is entirely owing to the profound and gracious benevolence of Lord Tentoku-in, and I consider this a blessing beyond all measure, for which I am deeply and humbly grateful.
