…して困ったことは、表と裏、両面の話であると、その心中の痛みを察してやった。
◯ それより田町・本芝あたりは破損が多く、札の辻より三田あたりは破損が少なく、七曲がりの薩州公（薩摩藩主）のお屋敷は御玄関・大書院が崩れたとのことである。芝金杉浜通りは波に引かれ、風に倒されて、人家ことごとく大破に及んだ。なおこのあたりの難破船の様子は、短い筆では書き尽くしがたいため、画工（絵師）に描かせて示すので、それを見て察していただきたい。
◯ 片門前壱丁目より、風雨の中に出火して、近辺残らず焼失し、表通りは宇多川町まで、日陰町は神明町の両側ともに焼き払われ、三島町の角にて止まった。ところで、今回失火した家の主人は、咎めを受けることを覚悟して謹んでいたが、その沙汰がない。そこで町内の役人から内々にこれを伺ったところ、今回の烈風は格別な変事であるから、失火の過ちもあながち咎めがたく、そのまま見捨て（不問）になさるとのこと。まことに御仁恵（慈悲深い）のお沙汰であると、涙をこぼして喜んだ。

◯ 西応寺門前の新並（しんなみ）あたりは破損した家が多く、中でも裏の借家・仮普請（かりぶしん）はことごとく潰れたとのことである。総じてここに限らず、地震の後、手入れが行き届かない家が多かったため、それらはみな倒れてしまったのだ。すでに先年（安政の大地震の折）は土蔵を揺るがし、富裕な家がことごとく難渋したが、今回は貧しい人々が難儀したその数は、数え上げるに暇がないほどである。まことに、富める者も貧しい者も共に難儀に及ぶというのは、天の時（天の定め）とも言うべきであろう。
◯ 増上寺の山内（境内）の宿坊は、所々破損が多く、外周りの大木が倒れること夥しい。切り通し西の久保あたりは、町家・武家屋敷が少々損じた。愛宕下通りの屋敷は表の囲いが損じ、火の見櫓が数か所落ちた。

At the residence of the Lord of Satsuma (the Satsuma domain lord), located along the Nanamamagari (Seven Bends) road, the main entrance and the great audience chamber reportedly collapsed. Along the shore road at Shiba Kanasugi, houses were swept by waves and toppled by wind, with virtually every dwelling suffering severe damage. The state of the wrecked ships in this area is too great to be captured in brief writing, so it has been entrusted to an artist to depict — please look upon that illustration to grasp the scene.
◯ A fire broke out amid the storm and wind from Katamon-mae Icchōme, burning down everything in the vicinity without exception. Along the main street, the fire spread as far as Udagawa-chō; on Hikage-chō, both sides of the street as far as Shinmei-chō were burned, and the fire stopped at the corner of Mishima-chō. Now, the owner of the house where the fire originated had braced himself for punishment and was conducting himself with great restraint, yet no order of reprimand came. The town officials therefore discreetly inquired into the matter and were told that, since the violent wind of this occasion was an extraordinary and unusual event, the mistake of the accidental fire could not readily be blamed upon anyone, and the matter would be let go without penalty. It was truly a merciful and compassionate ruling, and the man shed tears of gratitude and relief.

◯ In the area of the new row (shinami) in front of Saióji temple, many houses were damaged; among them, rear tenement houses and temporary constructions were entirely crushed. In general, not only in this area but throughout the city, many houses had not been properly repaired since the earthquake, and so all of those collapsed. In an earlier year (the Ansei Earthquake), the storehouses were shaken and wealthy households all suffered great hardship; but this time, the number of poor people who suffered hardship is beyond counting. Truly, that both the wealthy and the poor are brought to hardship alike may be said to be the workings of Heaven.
◯ Within the precincts of Zōjō-ji temple, the lodging quarters (shukubō) in many places suffered damage, and an extraordinary number of large trees in the outer grounds were toppled. In the area of Kiridōshi Nishikubo, townhouses and samurai residences were somewhat damaged.
