現代語訳
材木が流れてくること夥しかった。これは八丁堀周辺や三十間堀周辺、あらゆる河岸通りに積み置いてあったものが、高潮によって運ばれてきたものであろう。これより日本橋まで両中通り、さらに本町通り東西・十軒店・今川橋より内神田にかけて、多少倒壊した家屋はあったものの、通常と変わらない程度であったため、記述を省略する。

**安政風聞集 巻之中**
◯ 築地は御浜御殿のあたりから寒さ橋まで、武家地・町屋が風雨に吹き倒され、潮に漂い家を失う者が少なくなかった。その中でも西本願寺は本堂が潰れ崩れてしまった。しかしながら怪我人は一人もなく、特に本尊の阿弥陀仏は厨子を残したまま（無事に）お出ましになった。
御門跡の本堂は、完成に際して特に手を尽くし、美麗壮観な霊地であって、柱の礎石に至るまで堅固であることは、衆人がひろく知るところである。去る卯年（安政二年）十月二日夜の大地震にも、瓦が少し落ちた程度で特段の破損もなかったが、今年八月の大風の際には、地震で懲りた老若の宗徒たちが、傾きかかる家を捨て、漂う住居から逃れて、この御堂に逃げ込み、阿弥陀の誓願によって地獄の中で仏に会えたような心持ちであった。しかし風雨がだんだんと激しくなったため、寺中の方々は「このままでは堅固な本堂とはいえ、存亡は計り難い。ひとまず——」
英語訳
Timber came floating down in great quantities. This was likely due to the high tide carrying away lumber that had been stored along the riverbanks around Hatchobori and Sanjikkenbori. From there to Nihonbashi, along Ryonaka-dori, then along Honcho-dori east and west, Jikken-dana, and from Imagawabashi into Uchi-Kanda, there were some collapsed buildings, but as the damage was comparable to ordinary times, further description is omitted.

**Ansei Fubunshu, Volume Two**
◯ In Tsukiji, from the area of the Ohama Detached Palace to Samusa Bridge, many residences of samurai households and townspeople were blown down by the storm and carried away by the tide, and no small number of people lost their homes. Among these, the main hall of Nishi Honganji collapsed and crumbled. Nevertheless, not a single person was injured, and remarkably, the principal image of Amida Buddha was brought out safely, leaving only the miniature shrine (zushi) behind.
The main hall of the monzeki temple had been completed with the utmost care and was a place of magnificent, awe-inspiring beauty, with everything from the pillars to the foundation stones being of exceptional solidity, as was widely known to all. Even during the great earthquake on the night of the 2nd day of the 10th month of the Year of the Rabbit (Ansei 2, 1855), only a few roof tiles had fallen and there was no particular damage. However, during the great storm of this past August, followers of the faith — old and young alike, having already been shaken by the earthquake — fled their tilting homes and drifting dwellings and took refuge in this hall, feeling as though they had encountered the Buddha in the very hell from which Amida's vow promises salvation. But as the storm grew ever more fierce, the people throughout the temple said, "Even this sturdy main hall cannot be counted on to survive — we must first of all——"
