本尊を取り出してお救い申し上げようと、御厨子から取り出し奉り、（堂内に）籠もっていた人々がお供をして対面所の方へ退避させ申し上げた。それからほどなくして御本堂が倒壊したことは、まことに不思議なことと言うべきである。私の友人である某という人が、嵐が過ぎて三日後に用事のついでに、御門跡の本堂が倒壊したという噂を聞いて立ち寄って見ると、数十万の老若男女が倒壊した御本堂の瓦を降ろしている様子で、ある者は肩衣・角隠しを身に纏い頭に被り、本堂から一町ほど離れた置き場まで、それぞれが手から手へと次々に順送りで運んでいるさまは、その列をなす人々が十余筋に立ち並んでいた。とりわけ瓦は一枚ずつであるため、老いも若きもこれを運ぶのに苦労せず、また屋根板や打ち散らかった竹木類を積み上げたものを、それぞれに仕分けして縄で束ねる者もあって、その群衆が幾千人ともわからず、まるで蟻の群れのようであった。それだけでなく、信者からは「御冥加金」と称して、張り札に姓名を記して捧げる者で、十金以上のものが数多く見られた。また施主の名を記さずに捧げる金額は、張り出した分の十倍にも達したとのことで、まことにこの宗派の繁盛ぶりは推して知るべしである。

◯ 鉄炮洲は湊町で家が損壊することが夥しく、船松町では一丁半ほど高潮に引かれていき、行方の知れない者も多い。また佃島は西町一丁が悉く破損して、住吉明神の千木が吹き飛んで見えなくなった。永代橋は中ほどより東の方七・八間が暴風に押し流され、大船によって打ち落とされ、また西の方に寄った橋杭が一コマ打ち抜かれて通行が止まり、船渡しとなった。また大川端では、菅沼・秋元・佐野（の各屋敷）で破損が多く、安藤屋敷前から大橋までの往来に大茶船十二・三艘が打ち上げられ、三・四百石積みの船が砕けて艫の方だけが吹き上げられ、帆柱は箱崎へ上がった。そのほか橋杭三本・破損した船が大道の所々に散乱した。
◯ 浜町は、酒井・水野・間部公、その他小屋敷の多くが損壊した。この辺りも高潮が来て床上二尺四・五寸上昇した。竈河岸の火の見(やぐら)は屋根が飛び去って行方がわからない。松島町は悉く損じ、ひどく（被害を受け）、人形町通りは格別のことはなかった。

In an attempt to rescue the principal Buddhist image, it was taken out from its miniature shrine, and the people who had been sheltering inside provided an escort as the image was moved to the reception hall. Not long after this, the main hall collapsed — a truly miraculous turn of events. A certain acquaintance of mine, three days after the storm had passed, happened by on an errand, having heard rumors that the main hall of the monzeki temple had collapsed. Upon visiting to see for himself, he found countless tens of thousands of people, young and old, men and women, engaged in removing the roof tiles from the collapsed main hall. Some were dressed in kataginu (sleeveless formal wear) or tsunokakushi (a type of headwear), carrying tiles on their heads from the main hall to a storage area about one chō (approximately 109 meters) away, passing them hand to hand in a relay, with the lines of people stretching across more than ten rows. Since the tiles were handled one by one, neither the old nor the young labored excessively in carrying them. Others were sorting and bundling with rope the scattered roof planks, bamboo, and timber that had been piled up. The crowd was beyond counting — like a swarm of ants. Furthermore, believers made offerings labeled "go-myōgakin" (votive donations), with name tags affixed, and many donations of ten gold coins or more could be seen. Moreover, the amount donated anonymously was said to be ten times that of the posted donations — truly, the prosperity of this sect can well be imagined.

◯ In Teppōzu, damage to houses in Minatochō was extensive. In Funamatsu-chō, people were swept away about one and a half chō by the storm surge, and many were unaccounted for. In Tsukudajima, the entire West Quarter (Nishi-machi itchō) was devastated; the chigi (crossed finials) of the Sumiyoshi Myōjin shrine were blown away and lost. The Eitai Bridge was pushed and swept away seven to eight ken (approximately 13–15 meters) eastward from its center by the storm, knocked down by large vessels; furthermore, one section of the bridge pilings on the western side was broken through, halting traffic and making ferry boats necessary as a substitute crossing. Along the Ōkawabata, the residences of Suganuma, Akimoto, and Sano suffered considerable damage. From in front of the Andō residence to the Ōhashi bridge, twelve to thirteen large tea-transport boats (ōchafune) were driven ashore; a ship of 300–400 koku capacity was smashed, with only its stern blown up, while the mast was carried all the way to Hakozaki. In addition, three bridge pilings were damaged, and wrecked boats were scattered at various points along the main road.
◯ In Hamachō, the residences of the Sakai, Mizuno, and Manabe clans, as well as many smaller estates, were damaged. This area was also struck by the storm surge, which rose two shaku, four to five sun (approximately 73–76 cm) above floor level. The fire-watch tower at Hetsutsuigashi had its roof blown off, with no trace of it to be found. Matsushimachō was entirely damaged and severely affected, while Ningyōchō-dōri suffered no particularly notable damage.
