御同氏越前殿御病気之御様躰世上にてハ
不宜沙汰候永々御引込 御目見も無之候万一
風と御死去候ハヽ御跡職之儀御大法有之候得者
如何難計候左候得者只今之内兵部殿御了簡も
可有御座儀ニ存候近年御願之筋も有之候哉と
見合候得共其儀無之ニ付御家之事ハ何も
大切ニ存候故兵部殿越前殿御為と何も存寄
御内意申進候直ニ可申候得共差当御返答も
如何と存候出入被仕衆も不存候ニ付而彦坂

家老斎藤民部定之の屋敷において、家老一同に三大夫が伝達した。
内意覚書
同氏越前殿の病気の様子について、世間では良くない噂がある。長らく引きこもっており、目見えもない状況である。万一急に死去した場合、跡職の件について大きな問題があるので、どうなるか計り難い。そうであれば、今のうちに兵部殿もお考えがあることと存じる。近年願い出の筋もあったかと見合わせたが、そのような件はないので、御家のことは何事も大切に存じている。故に兵部殿、越前殿のためと思い、思うところを内々に申し上げる。直接申し上げるべきだが、差し当たってのご返答もいかがかと存じ、出入りしている者たちも存じ上げないので、彦坂壱州を通して申し上げる。以上。

同日夕刻、同様の件について家老狛木工允貞澄の屋敷に高知から御使番まで月番の面々を招集し、本多左兵衛道重、斎藤民部定之が列座して、右の御直書の趣旨を木工允が伝達した。

Secret Communication Memorandum
Regarding the illness of Lord Echizen of the same clan, there are unfavorable rumors circulating in society. He has been in seclusion for a long time and has not granted audiences. Should he suddenly pass away, there would be major issues regarding succession, making it difficult to predict the outcome. Given this situation, Lord Hyobu should consider his options now. We looked into whether there had been any recent petitions on this matter, but found none. Since family affairs are of utmost importance, I offer this private counsel for the benefit of both Lord Hyobu and Lord Echizen. I should speak directly, but given the uncertainty of an immediate response and my unfamiliarity with those who have access, I convey this through Hikosaka Ishū. The above.

On the evening of the same day, regarding the same matter, at the residence of chief retainer Koma Mokurō Sadazumi, officials from Kochi up to the attendant officers were summoned, including the monthly duty members. Honda Sahyōe Michishige and Saito Minbu Sadayuki were present, and Mokurō conveyed the contents of the aforementioned direct letter.
