15日の夜、八ツ時(午前2時頃)より出火。折しも西風が強く吹き、東南の方向へと火が燃え広がった。まず同町の両側が全焼し、駿河町は焼け抜け(延焼なく焼けた)、本町一丁目は全焼、二丁目は北側の入り口あたりまで焼けた。大工町は半分、近町・中ノ店・中ノ丁、同南三丁、元寺町まで焼け抜けた。米屋町は全焼、西側も全焼、福町は半町分、魚ノ店は中ほどまで焼けた。16日の未の刻(午後2時頃)に鎮火した。

Ansei 2nd year (1855), Shimotsuki (11th month) — Fire in Wakayama. Year of the Dragon.
A fire broke out at the eighth hour of the night (approximately 2:00 AM) on the 15th day. The wind was blowing strongly from the west, and the fire spread toward the southeast. Both sides of the same town were completely burned; Suruga-chō was burned through; Honmachi 1-chome was completely burned, with 2-chome burning as far as the northern entrance. Half of Daiku-chō was burned, along with Chika-machi, Naka-no-mise, Naka-no-chō, the same area's southern 3-chome, and the fire burned through as far as Moto-tera-machi. Komeya-chō was completely burned, the western side entirely burned, half of Fuku-machi was burned, and the fish market (Sakana-no-mise) was burned up to its midpoint. The fire was extinguished at the Hour of the Sheep (approximately 2:00 PM) on the 16th.
