1st Day [of the Month]: Overcast Off Duty
- Around 8 PM (the Fifth Hour), attended at the御屋形 (lord's residence); met with various retainers as customary.
- Notification received as to who holds the monthly duty (月番): Monogashira [unit commander] Ka-Yohei; Inspector (Metsuke) Watari Matasaku;
Household Affairs Officer (Okatte-kata) Hizasuke Emon; Land/Temple-Shrine Affairs Officer To-Gen'emon;
Town Affairs Officer Roku■ Zaemon.
- Performed the ancestral shrine rites (enshrining the spirit tablet of the clan temple) as customary: two soups and five side dishes. Note: as there had been an impediment during the Autumn Festival and the Hassaku (1st day of the 8th month) [observance],
[including the] ritual sake offering,
the ceremonies were carried out today [as a makeup observance].
- In connection with the above, summoned branch family members Gengoro'emon and Genzaemon, and entertained them with the remaining ceremonial sake.
- In the evening, a group reading session: the *Zuo Zhuan* (Chronicle of Zuo / *Saden*).
2nd Day: Clear and Fine
- Early morning: practiced equestrian arts.
- At the customary hour, attended at the administrative office (御用所); yesterday, letters arrived from four silver merchants (銀主) in Naniwa (Osaka); as the matter concerns a joint signature, it was circulated to the colleague holding the monthly duty.
