心（こゝろ）の花（はな）に劣（おとつ）たことを合点（がてん）したこれにつけても惜（をしむ）べきことじや花（はな）が散（ちつ）ても其（その）なりに
してはかぬがよい扨（さて）其元（そのもと）の家（いへ）の兄弟衆（きやうだいしゆ）は皆（みな）歴々（れき〳〵）で世間（せけん）の者（もの）がまねもならぬ列卿（れつけい）以（い）

　　　韋員外の家の花樹の歌
今年の花は去年の良いものに似ている。去年の人は今年に至って老いた。初めて
人が老いて花に及ばないことを知った。惜しむべき落花を君は掃いてはならない。君の家の兄
弟は並ぶ者がない。列卿・御史・尚書郎（みな高官である）。朝廷から帰ると花の下でいつも
客を集める。花が玉の杯に散って春酒が香ばしい。

韋は姓、員外郎は官職。その家で花見の酒盛りをし、花をほめて作った詩。人と花を比べて、人の
心が花に劣ることを理解した。これにつけても惜しいことだ、花が散ってもそのままに
しておくのがよい。さて、あなたの家の兄弟衆はみな身分が高く、世間の者が真似もできない列卿以
下尚書郎まで、どれも重役で暇もあるまい。しかし風流人ゆえ、朝廷から帰ると花の下に客を
集めて酒盛りがある。花の香りも杯にぱっと散りかかるように、酒も香
ばしい。玉缸は玉杯と同じ意味。
右の詩意を詳しくするには、嵩山房の『唐詩選』の講釈、また箋あるいは掌故など
があり、これらによって詳しくすべきである。

　　　Song of the Flowering Trees at Wei Yuan-wai's House

This year's flowers resemble last year's beautiful ones. Last year's people have grown old by this year. I first
realized that people age and cannot match flowers. Do not sweep away the precious fallen petals. Your family's
brothers are incomparable. They hold positions as ministers, censors, and secretaries. Returning from court, they always
gather guests beneath the flowers. Flowers scatter into jade cups, making the spring wine fragrant.

Wei is the family name, Yuan-wai-lang is the official position. This poem was composed while holding a flower-viewing banquet at his house, praising the flowers. Comparing people to flowers, the poet understood that human hearts are inferior to flowers. Regarding this, it is regrettable, but when flowers fall, it is best to leave them as they are. Now, the brothers in your family are all of high rank - from ministers down to secretaries - positions that common people cannot even aspire to. They are all important officials with little leisure time. However, being refined gentlemen, when they return from court, they gather guests beneath the flowers for banquets. As flower petals scatter into the cups with a gentle touch, the wine becomes fragrant. "Jade vessel" has the same meaning as "jade cup."
