Observation Cruise: As previously reported, the Japan Mail Company prepared their steamship Nagoya-maru specifically to observe the phenomena of the total solar eclipse that occurred the day before yesterday on the 19th. They guided many domestic and foreign scholars and gentlemen on a voyage to the sea area along the central line of the total eclipse. The invited passengers boarded the Nagoya-maru by around 2 PM on the 18th as scheduled, and around 3 PM, they gradually departed Yokohama Port accompanied by music from the naval band. In this way, they reached the location of the central line about five hours before the time of totality.
