そうどう大方ならす近辺の大川おひたヾ
しく出水し水火のせめとや申へき
されば貴賤の男女老たるをたすけいと
けなきをいだいてなきさけぶこゑ野に
みち山にひゞき其有様あわれと云も
おろかなり扨又松代真田様御城下丁々
馬喰町荒柴辺鍛冶町鏡台町田町
袋丁松山町新町丸ノ内辺大地さけ
家数百七八十軒程ゆりつぶされ人数
凡六十人程行衛知ずとかや此辺十二三里
の間しんどうしける又松平伊賀守様
御領分岩倉山くづれ候其辺ゆきゝも成
かねる程也さりながら御領主御代官
より御手配りもよく出火出水等も
夫々御ふせぎ有依て存の外人馬の
損亡なし是ひとへに泰平の
御国恩有難き御事也夫に付ても
御当地住居のものはかゝる例もなき
事ゆへはなしのみきゝてたゞめづ
らしと思ふ事なれ共かくけつこう
の土地に住果報はひとへに
御国恩の有難き事申もなか〳〵恐多事共也
●是又ちくま川止まり高井郡ふくしまはし
ま大しまわた内堀長門守様御ちん屋須坂
此へん地われおふせ▲中野此へん村々多く
そんす山田しふたなか此辺山くするゝ川田の宿
本多ふんご守様御城下飯山此へんとく〳〵崩候
浅野へん殊に強く有る者也諸人心得もならんかと
しるしぬ誠に泰平の御代しも有難事也

現代語訳

騒動は並大抵ではなく、近辺の大きな川（千曲川）は夥しく氾濫し、水害と火災の責め苦とでも申すべきか。貴賤・男女を問わず、老人を助け、幼い子を抱えて泣き叫ぶ声は野に満ち、山に響き渡り、その有様は「哀れ」と言うも、まだ言い足りないほどであった。

さて、松代・真田様の御城下、丁々（ちょうちょう）・馬喰町・荒柴辺・鍛冶町・鏡台町・田町・袋町・松山町・新町・丸の内辺にて大地が裂け、家数およそ百七、八十軒ほどが揺り潰され、人数およそ六十人ほどが行方知れずとのこと。この辺り十二、三里の間が震動した。

また、松平伊賀守様の御領分にて岩倉山が崩れ、その辺りは往来もままならないほどであった。しかしながら、御領主・御代官より御手配りもよく、出火・出水等もそれぞれに御防ぎがあり、思いのほか人馬の損亡がなかった。これひとえに泰平の御国恩、ありがたいことである。それにつけても、御当地（善光寺門前町）に住む者は、かかる例もないことゆえ、話にのみ聞いてただ珍しいと思うことであろうが、かくも結構な土地に住む果報は、ひとえに御国恩のありがたいことであり、申すもなかなか恐れ多いことである。

●これまた千曲川沿いに記すと、高井郡の福島・端島・大島・渡内・堀長門守様の御陣屋・須坂、この辺り地割れ多く、▲中野この辺り村々多く損じ、山田・渋田中この辺り山崩れ、川田の宿、本多豊後守様の御城下・飯山この辺りとくとく（特に著しく）崩れ、浅野辺りは殊に強くあった。諸人、心得にもなろうかと記した次第である。誠に泰平の御代とはいえ、ありがたいことである。

The turmoil was no ordinary matter — the great river (the Chikuma River) in the surrounding area flooded enormously, and it was as if one might call it a combined assault of flood and fire. Regardless of social status, gender, or age, people helped the elderly and carried young children in their arms, crying out in anguish; their voices filled the fields and echoed through the mountains. To call the scene "pitiful" would be an understatement.

Furthermore, in the castle town of Lord Sanada of Matsushiro — in the districts of Chōchō, Bakurōchō, Arashibahen, Kajichō, Kyōdaichō, Tamachi, Fukurochō, Matsuyamachō, Shinmachi, and the Marunouchi area — the earth cracked open, approximately 170 to 180 houses were toppled and destroyed by the shaking, and around 60 people were reported missing. The tremors were felt across a distance of some 12 to 13 ri in this area.

Also, in the domain of Lord Matsudaira Iga-no-Kami, Mount Iwakura collapsed, making travel through that area extremely difficult. Nevertheless, the lord and his officials managed affairs well, preventing fires and floods through their prompt responses, and the loss of life and horses was surprisingly minimal. This is entirely owing to the benevolent grace of our peaceful realm — a most grateful thing indeed. As for those residing in this area (the temple town of Zenkoji), since such disasters are unheard of here, they may have only heard of such things and regarded them as curiosities. Yet the good fortune of living in so blessed a land is owed entirely to the grace of our lord's peaceful rule — something too awe-inspiring to speak of lightly.

● To further note the situation along the Chikuma River: in Takai District, the areas of Fukushima, Hajima, Ōshima, Watauchi, the jin'ya (administrative residence) of Lord Hori Nagato-no-Kami, and Suzaka suffered extensive ground fissures. ▲ In Nakano and surrounding villages, widespread damage occurred. In the areas of Yamada and Shibutanaka, landslides struck. At the post town of Kawada, and in the castle town of Lord Honda Bungo-no-Kami at Iiyama, the destruction was particularly severe and prolonged. The Asano area was especially hard hit. This has been recorded so that all people may take heed. Indeed, even in these peaceful times, these are matters for which one must be deeply grateful [for one's own safety].
