一 此書ノ原本ハ「イルリュストレーテット、アストロノミイ」
ト題シ米国学士《ルビ：士覓土｜スミット》ト云人小学校教導ノ為ニ著
シテ去ル慶応三年ニ刊行セル者ナリ
一 此書ノ主意専ラ初学ノ士ニ星学ノ大綱ヲ知ラシム
ルニ在リ故ニ原本ニ在ル所ノ細註ハ一切除却ス
一 原本巻末ニ恒星図アレトモ細密ニシテ翻刻シカタキ
カ故ニ姑ク之ヲ置キ更ニ簡明ナル者ヲ求メテ追テ
補フヘシ
一 巻中所載ノ尺度ハ英法ナルカ故ニ大略我邦ノ尺度

一 この書の原本は「イラストレーテッド・アストロノミー」
と題し、アメリカの学者スミス（Smith）という人が小学校教育のために著し
て、慶応三年（1867年）に刊行したものである
一 この書の主旨は、もっぱら初学者に天文学の概要を知らせる
ことにある。そのため、原本にある細かな注釈は一切除いた
一 原本の巻末に恒星図があるが、細密で翻刻が困難である
ため、とりあえずこれを置き、より簡明なものを探して後日
補うつもりである
一 巻中に記載されている尺度は英国式であるため、おおよそ我が国の尺度

Preface to Illustrated Astronomy
1. The original book of this work is titled "Illustrated Astronomy"
and was written by an American scholar named Smith for elementary school education
and published in Keiō 3 (1867)
1. The main purpose of this book is specifically to inform beginners
of the general principles of astronomy. Therefore, all detailed annotations in the original have been omitted
1. Although there is a star chart at the end of the original volume, it is too detailed and difficult to reprint,
so we have temporarily set it aside and will seek a simpler one to supplement it later
1. The measurements recorded in the volume are in the English system, so they are roughly equivalent to our country's measurements
