現代語訳
（糸に）二等も三等も優れており、全く養蚕の方法が適切であったためであろう。また、東京は養蚕に適した地理的条件を備えているとも言えるであろう、と、ある時は喜び、ある時は驚き、一同が感服したことを、養蚕差配方・栗原茂平が目撃したところの証言として記録し、海辺では養蚕に向かないというのは誤りであることが、明らかであることを知らしめる。

[The silk thread they had produced was] superior by two or three grades [compared to the sample], and this was surely owing to the excellence of their sericulture methods. Moreover, it could be said that Tokyo possesses geographical conditions well-suited to sericulture. At times rejoicing and at times marveling, the assembled party was deeply impressed — this account, as witnessed by Kurihara Mohei, the sericulture supervisor (yōsan sabakikata), is here recorded, so that it may be made clear that the claim that coastal areas are unsuitable for sericulture is in error.
