This is said to be the brushwork of a Yamauba (mountain witch/hag).
Note: The original document is mounted as a hanging scroll, approximately half a sheet of Chinese-style paper (karakami). Accordingly, I have made a reduced copy here; the quality of the brushwork is generally as shown below.
The owner, Sukebeī, said: "Samurai from Kanazawa frequently come to view this piece, and upon viewing it they invariably make copies. However, although they all observe the brushwork of the original in order to reproduce it, none of their copies adequately captures its spirit and vigor. Your copy has succeeded remarkably well in preserving the quality of the brushwork."

一弥〻又一者 (ichi ya ichi mata ichi mono / "one cup, and yet another")
[In red:]
According to the *Noto-shi* (Chronicles of Noto): The three villages of Minamikata, Kitakata, and Jisha originally bore the name "Kamido," and in ancient times they were said to have been a single village. Jisha village is so called because it has within it the shrines and temples known as "Karasake-no-miya" and "Kani-dera" (formally named Eigenzenji). In Minamikata village there is a peasant family bearing the surname "Sanbai" (三杯, "three cups"). It is said that this name derives from the fact that an ancestor of this family encountered a Yamauba (mountain witch) in the mountains and received from her a piece of calligraphy reading "one cup, and yet another cup." Another theory holds that the name comes from an ancestor having found three bowls of cooked rice in the mountains, after which the family's fortunes improved greatly. It has been said that that particular line of text is from the writings of Dongpo (Su Shi). However, upon investigation, Yoshimi [the copyist] notes that the line in question is actually from a poem by Li Bai (Li Taihaku).

Drinking Together Among the Mountains — Li Bai
Two friends drinking together, mountain flowers open before us;
One cup, another cup, and yet another cup.
I am drunk and wish to sleep — please go for now, my friend;
Tomorrow morning, if you feel inclined, come back bringing your lute.
