[Right page] Arrange and set out as described above, to be ready for the purification ceremony by the yin-yang masters. The five grains: buckwheat millet Place these in small earthenware vessels as shown, set on three-legged stands and present before the yin-yang masters, Three-legged stand unhulled rice and the five grains together will be purified. red beans wheat Iris flowers (thirty-five with stones, with a little extra; fifty without stones, with a little extra) Total of eighty-five stalks (among these, the portion to be brought to the tutelary deity: five with stones, □ without stones, should be set aside with tags attached) First, set aside two iris stalks for exchange, with both leaf tips trimmed to the same length, then wrap the remainder. One stalk is for the temporary shrine building, one is for exchange at Tanao Shrine. The iris sashes for the three stone-bearers should also be tied and prepared. The sashes for the riders are obtained on the fourth day by taking two from those held by shrine attendants at the third torii gate. Today when the yin-yang masters arrive, all items used for horse racing - caps, ceremonial garments, fans, formal hakama, whips, hand towels, various [Left page] colored items, and all equipment - should be gathered together in a clean space today and prepared for the purification ceremony. 1. Today, the third day, when Gorōtarō brings the iris flowers, serve him sake and side dishes (flat-hand style arrangement: taro and cod, wakame seaweed), sushi (served in bowls) (for Gorōtarō and his wife). Both come. Give them two shō measures of lower-grade rice for the iris flowers before they return. 1. Today, the third day, for those who come to collect the deputy's oil fee, give five gō measures. Do not serve sake. However, if there are special circumstances, do not give it. Each case should be decided individually. 1. Today, the third day, three discussion officials arrive. They inquired whether there were any discrepancies in the stone-throwing rice, so I went out and reported that there were no discrepancies. Depending on the circumstances, sake may be served. Generally they return promptly. Hōkō's records also note that in recent years sake has not been served. 1. Today, the third day, items needed when the yin-yang master comes for the ceremony: Sugihara paper (five or six sheets), half-size paper (one bundle), stealth bamboo (four or five pieces), sakaki branches (a little), writing boards
