薩摩守死去之処又私迄御先立可申仕合不及是非
奉存候依之御暇乞申上候と之御口上之趣及言上候処
神君御驚被遊中納言事は度々之忠功不可勝計

思召しにより、近寄って様子を見るようにと、康俊の手を取られ、肌を撫でて見られると、このように肉が落ちて痩せ衰えが極まった上は、本復のことは思いも寄らず、この度の来訪の懇志に謝すに期限もないと仰せ述べられた。康俊は言葉もなく涙にむせび、御居間を退出した。その後、領地の西尾へ帰城の上、家臣等に申されたのは、先だって豊州（本多広重）が越前へ越えて黄門の容体の趣を語り、涙を流されたのも当然であろう。黄門は天下の貴族であり、また大国を領されているのに、殿中の質素で奢らない様子は、世に有り難いことであると大いに感激された。その後康俊も専ら倹約を守り、武辺も

Lord Hideyasu had been ill for some time, so he summoned the Kyoto physician Seihōin Roan and underwent various treatments, but his condition gradually did not improve. With this in mind, he sent Osa no Tsubone to Sunpu, and his message was: "My illness has become severe and my survival is uncertain. Recently, the Lord of Satsuma died, and now I too may precede you in death - this fate cannot be helped. Therefore, I humbly request permission to take my leave."
