一種
大山れんけ
或云延宝年中唐土より渡ると云り
樹高きに至る葉はもくれんげに似て厚
く花の形ほゝのきの花に似て梢小く
白色なり葉の形頗る菊（きく）花（くわ）に似たり
実もほゝのきに似て小し樹皮白色味ひ
苦く辛く香気あり根皮を採り用れは
効（こう）あるへけれとも希（まれ）なるゆへ葉用なしかたし

一種
大山れんけ
延宝年間（1673-1681年）に中国から渡来したと言われている。
高木になり、葉は木蓮に似て厚く、花の形は朴の木の花に似ているが少し小さく、白色である。葉の形はかなり桔梗の花に似ている。
実も朴の木に似ているが小さい。樹皮は白色で、味は苦くて辛く、香気がある。根皮を採取して用いれば効果があるだろうが、珍しいので葉を用いることはできない。

One variety
Oyama-renge (Large Mountain Lotus)
It is said that this plant was brought from China during the Enpō era (1673-1681).
It grows into a tall tree, with leaves resembling those of the magnolia but thicker. The flower shape resembles that of the Japanese magnolia but is somewhat smaller and white in color. The leaf shape is quite similar to balloon flower blossoms.
The fruit also resembles that of the Japanese magnolia but is smaller. The bark is white in color, with a bitter and pungent taste and aromatic qualities. If the root bark were collected and used, it would likely be effective, but since it is rare, the leaves cannot be used.
