○啓蒙に云う：一種、長さ一寸ほどで浅緑色にわずかに黒みを帯びたものを「カハカラス（川カラス）」という。
○石寿云う：形は横に長く、黒鴦鴛介に似て、鼻（殻頂）のあたりは松毬介に似る。背は黒色、唇（腹縁）は緑色で、光沢があり美しい。裏面は真珠介と変わらない。小さいものは淡黒色で、すなわち鼻のあたりに網代状の皺があり、唇は褐色である。松毬介と大同小異で、ただ長短を異にするのみである。大きさは一寸前後のものである。鼻のあたりが白く禿げているものが多い。松毬介と混同してはならない。牙合（二枚貝）である。

○石寿云う：形は円くふくらみ、殻は薄く、片耳（前端）が張り出し、片袖（後端）は長く、屈膝（殻頂）は一文字状で、質感は横条が交じり粗い。鼻のあたりから背にかけて茶褐色、唇のあたりから背のあたりにかけて蒼黒色で緑色を帯びる。光沢があるものは、鼻のあたりが淡黒色・黒褐色の横縞を帯び、唇のあたりは褐色で濃淡の横条が密に並び、黄色の細かい縦筋があるものがある。また、赤黒色の濃淡の横条に緑色を帯び、黄黒色の縦紋が密なものもある。緑色の多いものを佳品とする。大きいものは黒褐色あるいは赤褐色のものが多い。いずれも表面に光沢があり、裏面は真珠介の光と変わらない。大きさは一寸ほどから五、六寸に至る。大きいものは稀である。また、生まれたばかりのものは淡黒色で淡緑色を帯び、殻は極めて薄く脆い。すなわち土負介の属である。すなわち、時珍の云うところの「蛤」に当たるものであろう。

○ *Kaimono Keimō* states: A species approximately one *sun* (approx. 3 cm) in length, of pale green with a slight blackish tint, is called *Kawa-karasu* (River Crow Shell).
○ Sekiju states: The shape is elongated horizontally, resembling the *Kuro-ōen-kai* (Black Mandarin Duck Shell), with the area near the beak (umbo) resembling the *Matsukasa-kai* (Pine Cone Shell). ○ Sekiju states: The shape is round and swollen, the shell is thin, one end (anterior) flares outward, the other end (posterior) is long, the umbo is straight and level, and the texture is coarse with mixed horizontal striations. From the beak area to the dorsal surface, it is tea-brown in color; from the lip area to the dorsal region it is dark bluish-black with a greenish tint. Lustrous specimens show pale black and dark-brown horizontal bands near the beak, while near the lip the coloring is brownish with dense light-and-dark horizontal bands; some have fine yellow vertical striations. Others have reddish-black horizontal bands of varying shades with a greenish tint, and dense yellowish-black vertical markings. Those with more green coloration are considered the finest quality. Larger specimens are often dark-brown or reddish-brown. All have a smooth, glossy exterior, while the interior is indistinguishable from that of the Pearl Shell. In size, they range from approximately one *sun* to as large as five or six *sun*, though larger specimens are rare. Newly born specimens are pale black with a light greenish tint, and the shell is extremely thin and fragile. These belong to the *Dofū-kai* (土負介) group. This is likely what Li Shizhen refers to as "*gé*" (蛤, clam) in his writings.
