そうどう大方ならす近辺の大川おひたヾ
しく出水し水火のせめとや申へき
されば貴賤の男女老たるをたすけいと
けなきをいだいてなきさけぶこゑ野に
みち山にひゞき其有様あわれと云も
おろかなり扨又松代真田様御城下丁々
馬喰町荒柴辺鍛冶町鏡台町田町
袋丁松山町新町丸ノ内辺大地さけ
家数百七八十軒程ゆりつぶされ人数
凡六十人程行衛知ずとかや此辺十二三里
の間しんどうしける又松平伊賀守様
御領分岩倉山くづれ候其辺ゆきゝも成
かねる程也さりながら御領主御代官
より御手配りもよく出火出水等も
夫々御ふせぎ有依て存の外人馬の
損亡なし是ひとへに泰平の
御国恩有難き御事也夫に付ても
御当地住居のものはかゝる例もなき
事ゆへはなしのみきゝてたゞめづ
らしと思ふ事なれ共かくけつこう
の土地に住果報はひとへに
御国恩の有難き事申もなか〳〵恐多事共也
●是又ちくま川止まり高井郡ふくしまはし
ま大しまわた内堀長門守様御ちん屋須坂
此へん地われおふせ▲中野此へん村々多く
そんす山田しふたなか此辺山くするゝ川田の宿
本多ふんご守様御城下飯山此へんとく〳〵崩候
浅野へん殊に強く有る者也諸人心得もならんかと
しるしぬ誠に泰平の御代しも有難事也

現代語訳

騒動は並々ならず、近辺の大きな川は甚だしく氾濫し、水害と火災の責め苦とでも申すべきか。貴賤を問わず男女が、老人を助け、か弱い幼子を抱いて泣き叫ぶ声が野に満ち、山に響き渡り、その有様は哀れと言うも言葉足らずなほどであった。

さて、松代・真田様の御城下、丁々・馬喰町・荒柴辺・鍛冶町・鏡台町・田町・袋町・松山町・新町・丸の内辺では大地が裂け、家屋百七、八十軒ほどが揺り潰され、人数はおよそ六十人ほどが行方知れずとのことである。この辺り十二、三里の間が震動した。

また、松平伊賀守様の御領分では岩倉山が崩れ、その辺りは往来もままならないほどであった。しかしながら、御領主・御代官より御手配りもよく、出火・出水等もそれぞれ御防ぎがあったため、思いのほか人馬の損亡はなかった。これはひとえに太平の御国恩、有難いことである。それにつけても、当地に住む者はかかる例もない事ゆえ、話のみ聞いてただ珍しいと思うことであろうが、かくも結構な土地に住む果報はひとえに御国恩の有難いことで、申すも中々恐れ多いことである。

●これまた千曲川沿い、高井郡・福島・羽島・大島・渡・内堀・長門守様の御陣屋・須坂、この辺りは地割れが多く、▲中野この辺りの村々は多く損じた。山田・渋・田中この辺りは山が崩れ、川田の宿・本多豊後守様の御城下・飯山この辺りはとりわけ崩れた。浅野辺りは殊に強く（被害が）ある。人々に心得てもらいたいと記した。誠に太平の御代にも有難いことである。

The commotion was extraordinary; the great rivers nearby flooded tremendously, and one might call it the torment of both flood and fire. Men and women of all social classes—noble and common alike—helped the elderly, clutched frail infants in their arms, and cried out in anguish. Their voices filled the fields and echoed through the mountains, and the scene was so pitiful that mere words of sorrow cannot do it justice.

Now, in the castle town of Matsushiro under the Sanada domain—in the districts of Chōchō, Bakurō-machi, Arashibahen, Kajimachi, Kyōdaimachi, Tamamachi, Fukuro-machi, Matsuyamamachi, Shinmachi, and around Marunouchi—the earth cracked open, approximately 170 to 180 houses were shaken to rubble, and some sixty persons went missing. The tremors were felt across a distance of twelve to thirteen ri in this area.

Furthermore, in the domain of Lord Matsudaira Iga-no-Kami, Mount Iwakura collapsed, making travel through the area nearly impossible. Nevertheless, the domain lord and magistrates managed affairs well, and fires and floods were each properly controlled, so that the loss of human life and horses was unexpectedly limited. This is entirely due to the benevolent grace of our peaceful realm—a truly grateful thing.

In addition, along the Chikuma River: in Kōi District—Fukushima, Hajima, Ōshima, Watari, Uchibori, the residence of Lord Nagato-no-Kami, and Suzaka—the ground cracked extensively. ▲In the Nakano area, many surrounding villages sustained damage. In the Yamada, Shibu, and Tanaka areas, mountains collapsed. In the post town of Kawata, the castle town of Lord Honda Bungo-no-Kami, and the Iiyama area, the destruction was particularly severe. The Asano area was especially hard hit. I have recorded this so that the people may take heed. Truly, even in this age of peace, these are events for which we must be grateful (for divine protection).
