出火場所江見物躰之もの不罷出様度々触置候処近頃
出火場江鳶口を持夥敷罷出場所走り歩行候者有之
甚々如何ニ候町火消人足共町役人之外鳶口持候儀ハ無用ニ
候親類又者懇合之者方江見舞ニ罷出候者格別火
口へ立集り候而者消防之障りニ相成候間見物人之分者
於場所召捕当人者勿論家主五人組迄茂咎申付候
間不洩様能々可申諭候事
右之通寛政九巳年中其後度々相触置候処此段
猥りニ相成近火之場所江見物躰之者多く人数立集り
消防之防「妨の誤字カ」相成候間巳来近き親類等江見舞ニ罷越候者
宅内江罷越諸道具取片付遣し候義者勝手次第往来
一ト通り之もの脇道を通火口へ決而罷越申間敷候若相背

火事場への見物について
火事が起きた場所へ見物のような者が出向かないよう、たびたび触れを出してきたところ、近頃、火事場へ鳶口を持って大勢で出向き、現場を走り回る者がいる。これは非常に困ったことである。町火消の人足は、町役人以外が鳶口を持つことは無用である。親類や親しい者の家へ見舞いに行く者は別として、火口（火事場）に集まることは消火活動の妨げになるので、見物人は現場で召し捕り、本人はもちろん、家主・五人組まで咎めを申し付けるので、漏れなくよくよく申し諭すこと。
以上のとおり、寛政9年（1797年）巳年中、その後もたびたび触れを出してきたところ、このごろまた乱れてきており、近くで火事があった場所へ見物のような者が多く集まり、消火活動の妨げになっているので、今後は、近くの親類などへ見舞いに出向く者で、家屋内に入り諸道具を片付けてあげる者は自由としてよい。往来を通る者は脇道を通ること。火口（火元）へは決して出向いてはならない。もしこれに背いて見物のような者がいれば、火事場役人が召し捕り、異議を申し立てるならば切り捨てにしてよい。

**Regarding Spectators at Fire Scenes**
Although notices have been repeatedly issued prohibiting people from going to fire scenes as spectators, recently there have been individuals who go to fire scenes in large numbers carrying fire hooks (*tobiguchi*), running about the area. This is extremely problematic. It is unnecessary for anyone other than town officials to carry fire hooks among the town firefighters (*machi hikeshi*) and their laborers. While those visiting relatives or close acquaintances to check on their welfare are exceptions, gathering at the fire scene obstructs firefighting efforts. Therefore, spectators will be arrested on the spot, and not only the individuals themselves but also their landlords and the five-household groups (*goningumi*) will be held accountable. Make sure this notice is thoroughly conveyed to all without exception.
As stated above, this was previously notified during the 9th year of Kansei (1797) and repeatedly thereafter; however, recently the situation has again become disorderly, with many people gathering as spectators at nearby fire scenes, impeding firefighting efforts. Henceforth, those visiting nearby relatives to check on their welfare and who enter homes to help move and secure belongings may do so at their own discretion. Those passing through on the street should use side roads. No one shall under any circumstances proceed to the fire source. If anyone is found acting as a spectator in violation of this order, fire scene officials shall arrest them, and should they offer resistance, they are authorized to cut them down.
