小角（こかど）に引くなり。法（ほう）にて商（しょう）の二を、法にも二と置く。法の二に商の二をかけて、二二の四と法に置き、またこれに商の二をかければ、二四の八坪（つぼ）となる。これを実（じつ）にて引き払うなり。

この新編塵劫記（吉田光由〔著〕）を開板・鏤梓（るいし）し、その伝（でん）を末長く世に行わしめ、算法の指南となすこと、符節（ふせつ）を合わせるがごとし。後生（こうせい）は勤めてこれを施し、軽忽（けいこつ）するなかれ。
時に寛永第四暦、龍集（りゅうしゅう）彊梧単閼（こうごたんあつ）、仲穐（ちゅうしゅう）好目（こうもく）、辰西嶺（しんせいれい）・舜岳野（しゅんがくや）の釈（しゃく）〔玄光〕、以って跋（ばつ）す。

This is subtracted at the small corner. Place the divisor (*hō*) as 2, and the quotient (*shō*) as 2 in the divisor position as well. Multiply the divisor 2 by the quotient 2 to get 2×2=4, and place this in the divisor; then multiply this again by the quotient 2 to obtain 2×4=8 *tsubo* (square units). This is then subtracted from the dividend (*jitsu*) and cleared.

This new edition of the *Jinkōki* (by Yoshida Mitsuyoshi) has been carved onto woodblocks and published, so that it may long be transmitted and circulate in the world as a guide to the art of calculation — fitting together like tally sticks. Those who come after should diligently make use of it and must not treat it lightly.
Written as a postface at the time of the fourth year of the Kan'ei era, the year of *Kōgo Tan'atsu* in the sexagenary cycle, in mid-autumn, on an auspicious day — by the Buddhist monk *Gen'kō* of Shinseirei Shungakuya.
