現代語訳

嘉永七年寅年、六月十四日の卯の刻（午前六時頃）、八時頃のことである。尾張・伊勢・近江・美濃の四か国において大地震が発生した次第を記す。東海道筋の鳴海宿・宮宿・名古屋街道はいずれも、番場・蒲郡・佐屋宿・津島・五途・天王（等の地域）、とりわけこの日は（祭礼の）御祭礼にて大混雑であったが、道所・拝院その他の町家も漏らさず軒並み倒壊した。また北の方では犬山・小牧辺り、南の方では野間・内海・師崎辺りまで、佐屋川の西、伊勢国では長島・桑名・四日市・追分辺りもことごとく崩れた。その上、出火にもなり、死人・怪我人も数多く出た。同じく石薬師・庄野・亀山・関・坂の下宿辺りもことごとく、近江国では槌山・水口・石部宿辺り、西北は美濃国の大垣・南宮・高須・海津・柏原・醒ヶ井・高宮・愛知川・武佐辺りまで、その他西北の山々はいうまでもなく、大半が大震動にて崩れた。もっとも、十五日明け六つ半（午前七時頃）にようやく静まった。それより日々、しゅうしゅう（小刻みに）余震が続いた。古今まれなる大地震であるため、あらましを書き記し、諸人安堵のために書き記して知らしめるものである。

On the 14th day of the 6th month of Kaei 7, the Year of the Tiger, at around the Hour of the Rabbit (approximately 6:00 AM), a great earthquake struck the four provinces of Owari, Ise, Ōmi, and Mino. The following is an account of that event. Along the Tōkaidō highway, the post towns of Narumi and Miya, the Nagoya highway, as well as Bamba, Gamagōri, Saya post town, Tsushima, Gotu, and Tennō — especially on this day when a grand festival was being held and great crowds had gathered — all buildings including public halls, worship halls, and townhouses without exception collapsed. To the north, the destruction extended to the areas of Inuyama and Komaki; to the south, as far as Noma, Uchinomi, and Morosaki; west of the Saya River; and in Ise Province, Nagashima, Kuwana, Yokkaichi, and Ōiwake all collapsed entirely. Furthermore, fires broke out, and there were many casualties and injured persons. Likewise, the areas of Ishiyakushi, Shōno, Kameyama, Seki, and Sakanoshita post town, as well as in Ōmi Province, Tsuchiyama, Minakuchi, and Ishibe post town; to the northwest in Mino Province, areas including Ōgaki, Nangū, Takasu, Kaizu, Kashiwabara, Samegai, Takamiya, Echigawa, and Musa, and needless to say the mountains to the northwest — the majority collapsed due to the great tremors. The shaking finally subsided at around half past the Hour of Sunrise (approximately 7:00 AM) on the 15th. From that point on, aftershocks continued intermittently day after day. Because this was a great earthquake rare in all of history, this outline has been written down and made known for the reassurance of all people.
