現代語訳
私は不才であり、病気がちで迂闊なところがあるため、［分に過ぎる］ことではあるが、幼少の頃より数理を好み、病気で暇な日に戯れに筆を執ることを積み重ねて月日が経ち、草稿が一冊の書となった。
近頃、彫版師がこれを出版したいと言うので、私は答えた。「世に流布する算書は［少なくない］。そもそも数というものは太極より出でて、広がれば大にして外が無く、流れれば小にして内が無い。一即一切、一切即一。この理が融通すれば、適等・生成・異滅・進退・倍増・省約・加減・因乗・帰除等を使いこなせる。どうして天を尽くし地を尽くし万物の浅深に留まりがあろうか。しかしこの書は始終、算学の啓蒙としての次第を改正することに関して無駄ではなく、まだその本源を究めていないため許可しない」と。
書林は言った。「牛の尿、馬の糞、破れた太鼓の皮でも、すべて遺漏なく収集するのは、医師の心がけではないでしょうか。あえて先学や達人のためではなく、初学者の愚かな胸を開かせるためとお考えください」と。そこで私は固く辞することができず、笑ってその言葉に従うことにした。

I am without talent, often ill, and careless, so this may be beyond my abilities, but since my youth I have loved mathematics, and during idle days when sick, I playfully took up the brush, and as months accumulated, my draft writings became a book.
Recently, an engraver wanted to publish this, so I replied: "There are [many] mathematical books already in circulation. Numbers emerge from the Supreme Ultimate (Taiji), and when expanded they are great with nothing outside, when flowing they are small with nothing inside. One is all, all is one. When this principle flows freely, one can master equality, generation, transformation, advance and retreat, multiplication, simplification, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, etc. How could there be limits when exhausting heaven, earth, and the depths of all things? However, this book is not without merit in revising the proper sequence for mathematical enlightenment, but since it has not yet fathomed the original source, I do not permit it."
The publisher said: "Don't doctors collect everything without omission - cow urine, horse dung, broken drum skins? Please consider this not for advanced scholars and masters, but to open the foolish hearts of beginners." Therefore I could not firmly refuse, and laughingly agreed to his words.
