本船へ注進に及び候事（この本船と申すは長崎表の軍船・大草丸と申す船也）。御奉行より仰せを蒙り、家来の高林忠大夫様・高間応助様が、異船見届けの検使として、大草丸に御紋付きの幕を張り、旗・船印を押し立て、数多くの引き船にて日本の武威を輝かせ、長崎より三里（先へと向かった）。

On the 18th day, the local official Takaishi Mosaburō, while observing the foreign ships from approximately six or seven ri offshore from a place called Mihama, approached by small boat, received a letter, and confirmed that the vessel was indeed a Russian ship. reported to the main vessel (this "main vessel" refers to the Nagasaki military ship called the Ōkusa-maru). Upon receiving orders from the Magistrate, retainers Takabayashi Chūdayū and Takama Ōsuke were dispatched as inspection envoys to verify the foreign vessel. With the Ōkusa-maru decorated with crested curtains, banners, and ship insignia raised, and accompanied by numerous tow-boats, they set out to display Japan's military prestige, heading three ri from Nagasaki.
