Report regarding the rebellion plotted by Ōshio Heihachirō, father of Ōshio Kakunosuke, a mounted retainer (yoriki) under Atobe Yamashiro-no-Kami's command, and the fire which consumed the official residence in Tanimachi.
Concerning the matter that Heihachirō, the retired father of Ōshio Kakunosuke — a yoriki under the command of Atobe Yamashiro-no-Kami — had plotted a rebellion and had been conspiring with peasants: on the morning of the 19th (yesterday), we received an urgent communication from Yamashiro-no-Kami instructing us to be fully prepared with measures for suppression. Accordingly, I assembled my subordinate officials (tetsuke and tedai) and made arrangements, when a fire broke out from the yoriki residential quarter along the Tenmabashi-dōri in Osaka...

...and so I promptly assembled the emergency response forces that had been prepared in advance and headed toward the Kokukuji Temple and the Shrine post. Upon arriving near the back of the shrine, in the direction of the said residential quarter, large cannon (ōzutsu) were being fired repeatedly, and since the entire group was wielding drawn swords, it was impossible to approach the residential quarter; therefore, we maintained guard over the shrine. As for the cannon, fire arrows (hiya) were being loaded and fired, and fires broke out from where the projectiles landed, spreading to various locations within a short time. As for the protection of the shrine, our numbers gradually increased. When Yamashiro-no-Kami consulted with us, he instructed us to fortify the southern approach of Tenma. We proceeded to make arrangements accordingly, but fire continued to spread upwind, and the official residence was also in danger; so everyone withdrew, each person carrying out the official documents, while Heihachirō's associates went about carrying cannon, firing incendiary arrows in various places. As a result, the greater part of the Tenma area was burned down. The fires then crossed Naniwabashi Bridge and spread to the Semba area in the same manner; there was no way to stop it, and on the same night, at the sixth half-hour (approximately 3 a.m.), the official residence...
