題スル三大字ハ小篆ニシテ、東陵書スト、小字ハ梯書也、共ニ陵カ筆蹟ト云、其景勝地ニ超タリ、奇
石怪【恠】岩異草嘉樹、山ノ姿水ノ流、誠ニ画カクモ及カタシ、西ハ遙海ヲ隔テヽ肥前ノ溫泉山ヲ望メリ、其
余檜垣カ旧蹟不動岩、鼓ノ瀧ナト遠近ノ佳麗尽ク述ベカラスト書ケリ、然ハ山中庵ト末書ニ見ルハ、
霊巌寺ノ子院ニテモ有ニヤ、山中ニ彼石像ヲ蔵メ置ケルモノ、八百三十余年ノ星霜ヲ経テ、今アラハ

村尾伯恭之爲人也、何如、詳審慣密風流醴藷、右文、左武、職事缺掌、少有餘暇、零山素水、吟
哦頗富、至其僰、記其概、搜索探討、杖履之所觸、目睫之所接、謫々焉、漠々焉、而其雄也者、特
所謂全稿遊草爲之冠、誼也壯歳曾一閱之、麗美之情特殊甚、十數年間夢寐猶髣髴、常來往于胸懷、
頃就令嗣君某而借觀之、披卷讀之、其遊于山也哦々、其遊于水也泮々、宛如儷子期待側伯牙
鼓琴魂往神飛、令人有霞舉雲揚之想、錦綺散亂、珠璣迸出、其間儘加考證、赤確實毫無謬、一事一
物可見、一瞬之看不苟且焉、惜哉、下世十餘年、其骨已朽、其文猶存、以今觀之、不能把臂一堂杯
酒唱酬以爲恨耳、於是感懷益切、即裁小引以代生芻之識、伯恭有靈、有知於地下可泠笑也矣【ここまで】

現代語訳
ここに来て霊洞の側に梵字を建て、宝華山霊巌寺と号し、故に東陵を開山とする。曹洞宗である。岩上に題する三大字は小篆にして、東陵が書すと。小字は楷書である。共に陵の筆跡と云う。その景勝地に秀でたり。奇石怪岩異草嘉樹、山の姿水の流れ、誠に画も及び難し。西は遥か海を隔てて肥前の温泉山を望めり。その他檜垣の旧跡不動岩、鼓の滝など遠近の佳麗尽く述べ難しと書けり。然らば山中庵と末書に見るは、霊巌寺の子院にてもあるのか。山中に彼の石像を蔵め置けるもの、八百三十余年の星霜を経て、今現れ出たることなり。檜垣の女の卒年伝えず。(後撰集、天暦五年辛亥奏上、天明巳年まで八百三十一年)

村山緯識
村尾伯恭の人となりは、いかようであったか。詳審慎密風流洒脱、右文左武、職事を缺掌し、少しく余暇有り、青山素水、吟詠頗る富む。その境に至り、その概を記し、捜索探討、杖履の触るる所、目睫の接する所、歴々焉、漠々焉として、その雄なる者、特に所謂全稿遊草これを冠とす。私は壮歳かつて一度これを閲し、麗美の情特に甚だしく、十数年間夢寝なお髣髴として、常に胸懐に来往す。頃ごろ令嗣君某に就いてこれを借観し、巻を披き読むに、その山に遊ぶや哦々、その水に遊ぶや泮々、宛も子期が側に待ち伯牙が琴を鼓するが如く、魂往神飛し、人をして霞举雲揚の想有らしむ。錦綺散乱し、珠璣迸出す。その間尽く考証を加え、また確実にして毫も謬無し。一事一物見る可く、一瞬の看も苟且ならず。惜しいかな、下世十余年、その骨已に朽ち、その文なお存す。今を以てこれを観るに、臂を把って一堂杯酒唱酬するを能わざるを以て恨みと為すのみ。ここに於いて感懐益々切なり。即ち小引を裁して以て生芻の識に代う。伯恭霊有らば、地下に於いて知ること有り泠笑すべきなり。

英語訳
Coming here, they erected Sanskrit characters beside the sacred cave and named it Hōkezan Reigan-ji Temple, thus making Tōryō the founding priest. It belongs to the Sōtō Zen sect. The three large characters inscribed on the rock are in small seal script, said to be written by Tōryō. The small characters are in regular script. Both are said to be Tōryō's calligraphy. This scenic spot excels above others. With strange rocks, peculiar crags, exotic plants, and beautiful trees, the mountain's form and water's flow are truly beyond what painting can capture. To the west, across the distant sea, one can view Mount Onsen in Hizen Province. Other beautiful sights near and far, including the historic site of Higaki, Fudō Rock, and Tsuzumi Falls, are too numerous to describe fully. If so, what appears in the postscript as "Sanchū-an" might be a sub-temple of Reigan-ji Temple. The stone statue that was stored in the mountains has now emerged after more than 830 years. The year of Higaki no Onna's death is not recorded. (Gosen-shū, presented in the 5th year of Tenryaku, Kanoto-i year; 831 years until Tenmei Tsuchi-no-to-mi year)

What kind of person was Murao Hakukyō? He was thorough and meticulous, elegant and refined, accomplished in both literature and martial arts. Managing official duties with some leisure time, he was rich in poetic composition amid blue mountains and clear waters. Reaching such heights, he recorded the essence, searching and investigating everywhere his staff and sandals touched, everything his eyes encountered, distinctly and vastly. Among his works, what is called the "Complete Draft Travel Notes" stands supreme. In my prime, I once read through it, and the beauty of emotion was particularly intense. For more than ten years, it remained vivid in my dreams, constantly dwelling in my heart. Recently, I borrowed it from his heir and read through the volumes. His mountain travels were melodious, his water travels serene, like Zi Qi waiting beside and Bo Ya playing the qin, with soul and spirit flying, inspiring thoughts of rising with mists and soaring with clouds. Brocade scattered in disorder, pearls and gems bursting forth. Throughout, he added thorough research, accurate without the slightest error. Every event and object can be verified; not a moment's observation was careless. Alas, more than ten years since his death, his bones have decayed but his writings remain. Looking at them now, I regret only that we cannot share wine and exchange verses in the same hall. Thus my feelings grow ever more intense. I write this brief preface to serve as a modest tribute. If Hakukyō's spirit exists, he may smile knowingly in the underworld.
