【第一条：衣服・下駄・鼻緒等に関する奢侈禁止令】
去る丑年（うしどし）十月中に触れ渡し置いた通り、その後も度々、衣服はもちろん、すべてにわたって手の込んだ贅沢な品々を使用してはならない旨、触れ示し置いた趣もあるところ、近来また相緩み、下駄ならびに鼻緒等に手の込んだ高価な品々を使用しているとのことが聞こえ、もってのほかのことにつき、以来このような状態のないよう、十分に入念に、油断なく心がけるようにすること。

【第二条：菓子・料理・鮨等の贅沢品に関する禁止令】
一、無益な手間をかけた高値の菓子類・料理等は、今後無用とする。これまで拵えてきたものも止めるべき旨、去る丑年十月中に触れ渡し置き、その後、主立った右の渡世（家業）を致す者共を呼び出し、厚く申し諭し置いた趣もあるところ、近来またもや相緩み、触れの趣に背き、無益に手間をかけた結構な菓子・料理、ならびに鮨等を拵えて売買致す者もあるとのことが聞こえ及んだにつき、吟味を遂げ、きっと申し付けるべきところ、右はまったく風聞までのことであろうとのことで、この度は宥免し、吟味には及ばない沙汰とする条、自今（これより）右のような紛らわしい風説を立て申さぬよう、右渡世の者共はもちろん、きっと心がけるよう致すこと。なお向後、右のような儀が聞こえ及んだ時は、時宜によっては厳重なる咎めを申し付けるであろう。

**[Article 1: Prohibition on Luxury Items Including Footwear and Accessories]**
As was previously communicated by official notice in the tenth month of the Year of the Ox, and as has been reiterated on numerous subsequent occasions, it has been ordered that elaborate and luxurious goods of all kinds — not only clothing — must not be used. Nevertheless, it has recently come to notice that regulations have again grown lax, and that people are using elaborate and expensive items such as wooden clogs (*geta*) and thong straps (*hanao*). This is absolutely unacceptable. Henceforth, all persons are to ensure with the utmost diligence and without any negligence that such conduct does not occur.

**[Article 2: Prohibition on Elaborate Confections, Cuisine, and Sushi]**
One item: Confections, cuisine, and similar goods that require unnecessary labor and are sold at high prices are henceforth prohibited. Even those that have been prepared up to now are to be discontinued. This was communicated by official notice in the tenth month of the Year of the Ox, and thereafter the principal persons engaged in these trades were summoned and given thorough admonishment. However, it has recently come to our attention that regulations have again grown lax, that persons are acting contrary to the terms of the notice, and that there are those who are preparing and selling elaborate confections, cuisine, and items such as sushi that involve unnecessary labor. While this matter would ordinarily warrant a thorough investigation and strict punishment, as the information received is based on rumor only, a pardon is hereby granted on this occasion and no formal inquiry will be pursued. Nevertheless, henceforth all persons engaged in these trades — and indeed all others — must take great care not to give rise to such ambiguous rumors. Furthermore, should such matters come to our attention in the future, strict punishment will be imposed as circumstances warrant.
