融通則使適等生成異滅進退倍増省約
加減因乗帰除等豈有渟盡天盡地萬物
浅深然此書始終非無如筭學啓蒙次第
改正且未哲其本源故以不許書林曰牛
溲馬㪍敗皷之皮倶収無遺者非醫師之

現代語訳
私は不才で病気がちであり、物事に疎いため、分を守っているが、幼少の頃から数理を好み、病気で休んでいる日に戯れに筆を取って積み重ねた結果、草書が完成した。
近頃、彫刻師が刊行したいと申し出た。私は言った。「世の中の算術書は三つや五つではない。そもそも数というものは太極から生じ、広がれば大にして外が無く、小さくなれば小にして内が無い。一即一切、一切即一、この理が融通すれば、等差、生成、異滅、進退、倍増、省約、加減、因乗、帰除などに限りがあろうか。天も尽きず地も尽きず、万物には浅深がある。しかし、この書は始終、算学啓蒙のような次第改正が無いわけではなく、また未だその本源を理解していないので許可しない」と。
書林は言った。「牛の小便、馬の糞、破れた太鼓の皮でも、全て残らず収集するのは、医師の用心ではないか。あえて先学の達人のためではなく、初学者の愚かな胸を開かせるためではないか」と。そこで私は固辞することができず、笑ってその言葉に従ったのである。

I am untalented and often ill, and being dull-witted, I maintain my station. However, since my youth I have loved mathematics, and during days when I was resting due to illness, I playfully took up my brush and accumulated writings, resulting in the completion of this manuscript.
Recently, an engraver expressed a desire to publish it. I said: "There are not just three or five arithmetic books in the world. Numbers originate from the Supreme Ultimate (Taiji), and when expanded, they are great with no exterior; when contracted, they are small with no interior. One is all, all is one - when this principle flows freely, how could there be limits to arithmetic progression, generation, transformation and extinction, advance and retreat, multiplication, simplification, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division? Heaven is inexhaustible, earth is inexhaustible, and all things have their depths and shallows. However, this book is not without systematic corrections like those in mathematical primers from beginning to end, and since I have not yet comprehended its fundamental source, I do not permit publication."
The publisher said: "Even cow urine, horse dung, and broken drum skins are all collected without exception - is this not the careful attention of a physician? Dare I suggest this is not for accomplished masters of earlier learning, but to open the foolish hearts of beginning students?" Therefore, I could not firmly refuse and, laughing, followed his words.
