一ツとや 一ツ目二ツめ三ツめ子蔵（こぞう）ばけものが
うそでないぞや本所（ほんじやう）へいでるとき
二ツとや 二日の夜（よる）のなきごゑやたのむこゑ
みらいはめをとやおやこづれなさけなや
三ツとや 三座（さんざ）芝居（しばゐ）のごひゐきもそでのつゆ
かほみせないとはくちをしやまちかねる
四ツとや よし原女郎（ぢよらう）しゆは出（で）まごつくむりもない
火（ひ）の仲（なか）の丁（てう）でつゝまれてともにしぬ
五ツとや いつかかしまのかなめ石（いし）ゆるんでか
神（かみ）なし月じやとあなどつてにくらしや
六ツとや むしやうにゆりくるそのたびにとんでいで
よくとくはなれて青（あを）いかほこはらしい
七ツとや なむあみだぶつといふ間（ま）さへあればこそ
ゆめではあらぬか死出（しで）のたびうかまれぬ

**題：地震（じしん）まりうた**
一つとや 一つ目、二つ目、三つ目、小僧よ、化け物が
うそではないぞ、本所へ出るとき（に見えるのだ）
二つとや 二日の夜の泣き声よ、助けを求める声よ
来世では夫婦として、あるいは親子連れとして（生まれ変われようか）、なんと哀れなことよ
三つとや 三座の芝居のごひいきも（悲しみの）袖の露よ
（役者が）顔見世をしないとは、口惜しい、待ちかねることよ
四つとや 吉原の女郎衆は出るに出られず、まごつくのも無理もない
火の中の丁（町）で包まれて、ともに死んでいった
五つとや いつか鹿島の要石がゆるんだのか
神無月だからと（鹿島の神が留守だと）侮って、にくらしいことよ
六つとや むやみに揺れくるそのたびに飛び出して
欲得（よくとく）を離れて（顔が）青ざめる、恐ろしいことよ
七つとや 「南無阿弥陀仏」と唱える間さえあれば（まだよかったものを）
夢ではないのか、死出の旅（に出ても）浮かばれない
八つとや 焼けて居どころに迷う人が多ければ
お上のお慈悲で（仮）小屋が建つ、ありがたいことよ
九つとや 悔やんでも帰らぬことながら、お金をかけて
（お役人が）御蔵を振るって（米を放出して）いると言われます、うまい（ものだ）ではないか
十をとや とうとう世界も（人が）入れ替わって（世の中が）ゆずりよく（なり）

That the actors won't show their faces at the year-end performance is vexing, how one yearns to see them!
Four and oh— The courtesans of Yoshiwara could not get out, no wonder they were at a loss—
Surrounded by fire in the middle of the quarter, they perished together
Five and oh— Has the keystone of Kashima grown loose somehow?—
How hateful that people took it lightly, saying the god was absent during the Godless Month!
Six and oh— Every time the violent shaking comes, people leap outside—
Forgetting all greed and self-interest, their faces turn pale—how terrifying!
Seven and oh— If only there had been time to chant "Namu Amida Butsu"—
Is this not a dream? Even in death, there is no peace
Eight and oh— With so many people wandering, lost, their homes burned down—
By the mercy of the authorities, shelters are being built—how grateful we are!
Nine and oh— Though we regret what cannot be undone, spending money—
They say the officials are shaking open the storehouses (releasing rice)—now that is something to be glad about!
Ten and oh— At last, the world has turned over and changed hands, yielding graciously—
In this golden age, we can live well as the wheel turns smoothly
